Pacquiao is not being charged with tax evasion since he pays his taxes on time. In fact, he is already the highest tax-payer in the country.
http://www.mb.com.ph/node/288803/pacquiao-top-taxpayerThis begs the question of why, despite already paying the highest personal income tax in the country, Pacquiao is being treated as a tax evader by the BIR through highly publicized imputations of wrong-doing? One would think that his case would at least be treated with some discretion by the BIR, not only because he is a public official and an acknowledged representative of the Philippines to the rest of the world, but simply because he had always done his duty to pay taxes.
Whether you like him or not, Pacquiao has contributed so much to our country, not the least of which is his astronomical tax payments. Compare that to Lucio Tan who is not even among the Top 100 taxpayers in the country, and one cannot help but wonder why Pacquiao is being treated with such disrespect.
Amen to this. What a pity this country has become. This simple site reflects how separated our views are. If Manny is the highest tax payer, what happened to those who have been listed in the Forbes? Just a thought...
