NEITHER at this point.

Let's be honest, ROACH is no longer LUCID and CLEAR enough to communite effectively to help fighters adjust.

FLOYD SR, don't care about you either, if you get KO'd he's the first one to leave the building before you've
received any medical attention....

...but why this UGLY APE SR. didn't taught Hatton a defense when Hatton fought pacman? why he didn't gave hatton an intruction to adjust and change his style in 2nd round after hatton was fall 2 times in a first round?

I think he did, only just Hatton can't easily adjust.

i remember roach once said that Hatton is a good fighter but only his trainer was not and can't be good.

Actually, he did. Watch the fight again. While spraying water on Hatton, Mayweather Sr castigated Hatton for not keeping his hands up. Problem is, you can't teach old dog new tricks. Hatton always fought coming forward without regard for defense. That's how Pacquiao flattened him in 2 rounds but took Mayweather Jr 10 rounds to accomplish.

it still boils down to the fighter.

manny made roach great in the eyes of the public.

and so did JMM to nacho.

you can't be a good teacher if you have no good students, as well as you can't be a good student if you don't have a good teacher. so both of them are necessary.

yes it is necessary. its given.

roach helped manny alot. and nacho taught JMM as well.

but, if manny or JMM works with say, mayweather or steward. the skills would still be there. this is not to diminish the work of the coaches.
roach, steward, beristain, angelo dundee, eddie futch and all the famous trainers were best known because of their fighters
not because of their abilities to train or transform mediocre fighters to super ones.

Past and present (not in any particular order):

Eddie Futch - Trained several world champions and HOFs.
Angelo Dundee - "You're blowing it, son. You're blowing it."
Cus D'Amato - "Iron" Mike Tyson, Floyd Patterson
Emmanuel Steward - Hitman Hearns, Lennox Lewis, Klitschos
Freddie Roach - 5-time "TOTY" (Trainer of the Year) awardee (Pacquiao)
Nacho Beristain - JMM, Pacquiao's kryptonite (other than Timothy Bradley, ahem)
Roger Mayweather - Defense. Proof? Floyd

Rising ones:
Robert Garcia - Nonito and Brandon Rios
Alex Ariza - in his dream.
