I never believed in those sh1t. I place them in the same level as the ampalaya capsules we have.
speaking of amplaya bro, they really have a blood sugar lowering effects as proven by several studies.
the problem is the recommended dose in the study done by charantia is 100mg per kilogram per day to achieve a dose of an effect comparable to that of 5mg of glibenclamide, another anti-diabetic drug.
here's an excerpt of that study:
A number of scientific studies on the effect of ampalaya on blood glucose levels have already been undertaken. The most compelling of these is a 10-year trial, which was conducted by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) that compared ampalaya leaves with the anti-diabetes drug glibenclamide. The results of the trial showed that the blood sugar lowering effect of a 100 milligram per kilo dose per day of ampalaya is comparable to 2.5 milligrams of the anti-diabetes drug Glibenclamide taken twice a day.now for a 50kg person you would need at least 10 capsules of ampalaya. at 7 pesos per capsule that would cost you 70 pesos per day not to mention the inconvenience of taking 10 capsules per day.
that is in comparison with taking the glibenclamide itself 5mg once a day or 2.5 mg twice a day which will cost you around 10 pesos per day. this is the cheaper and more convenient option.
lastly advances in research has come up with more potent and more reliable meds for diabetes like sitagliptin, pioglitazones and of course the old and reliable metformin.
