Some years ago, Joan Guzman was a possible opponent of Manny Pacquiao. Just wondering why it didn't push through. Guzman was a also a rising star at that time.

Because team Pacquiao ducked Joan Guzman.

I remember Freddie Roach saying Guzman has faster hands and faster feet.

Pacquiao could've lost or he could've won but would've certainly looked bad against him.

It turns out that ducking him was a good decision anyway because of the foreseen bad match-up.

If Roach was Donaire's trainer, for sure they would've ducked Rigo and Donaire's stock would've still been high right now.

I also remember the time when they picked Hector Velasquez over Zahir Raheem 'cos Zahir was also a slick boxer and runner that would give Pac a hard time.

That's how good Roach was then when taking care of Pacquiao.

very obvious Joan guzman was undefeated and fights with insane speed and quick reflexe and hits like a mule, theres no way freddie roach will pit Manny who is a rising star at that time against a opponent which can ruin his career.Even Hussein KD Pacquiao at lower weight, imagine if its Guzman

End of thread.

Honestly, I think Guzman is one of the only 2 boxers Pac missed. I also think he could've fought Casamayor instead of Diaz. Freddie and Bob Arum know boxing and boxing is a business and they have to look out for their products in order to sell them well to the masses.

WHERE IS HE NOW?
NO Money at Guzman.
He's Overrated.
He's a boring fighter.
He's mediocre boxer.
Can't even reach his payday to $ .5M
Defeated by a bum fighter... IN SHORT he's a BUM also.

No one's saying he should fight Guzman now. That ship has sailed. The question was why did Pacquiao not fight Guzman when he was in his prime.

He was a champion then. Why ask where is he now? Why not ask where is David Diaz or Jorge Solis, boxers he shouldn't have fought because there was no money in them. Those are mediocre fighters, not Guzman. Roach steered Pacquiao away from him because Guzman'sslick style was dangerous for Manny. These pachuggers never get tired of turning a blind eye on Manny's shortcomings but their eyes are wide open when criticizing Mayweather and Marquez.
