Philippines Nears $443 Million Deal for South Korea Fighter Jets

By Daniel Ten Kate and Norman P. Aquino on January 30, 2013

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2013-0 ... ghter-jets

The Philippines is close to reaching an 18 billion peso ($443 million) deal to purchase 12 fighter jets from South Korea as it moves to bolster its defenses amid tensions with China over disputed territory.

Defense Assistant Secretary Patrick Velez today said the government intends to finalize a contract with Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (047810) by the end of February and two could be delivered in the next six months. The Philippines hasn’t had an operating fighter jet since 2005.

The jets will be used for training and fending off enemy forces, Lacierda said. The Philippines may also seek bids for the supply of an unspecified number of naval warships by April, Velez said.

The Dept. of Defense announced Wednesday the Philippines is purchasing combat aircraft from South Korea as part of its modernization program.

Buying is easy but training pilots for fighter jets takes skills and time.

Forget the jets and ships - just save money for a nuclear bomb and a delivery system. That's a more credible deterrent to an nuclear-armed enemy. The Chinese will just laugh at those few jets and ships...

Its a G 2 G deal. The $ 30M per plane you Googled is the exclusive price for the South Korean AF since the Koreans invested a lot in these plane. It's a Korean plane with a lot of help from Lockheed Martin. The US is seriously looking at it too. We will be getting the FA (Fighter/Attack) variant. Not a T-50 (Trainer) or the TA-50 (Trainer/Attack) version. The EXPORT price of FA-50 is $ 35M+. Since it is a two-seater, it can also be used for pilot training. KAI already abandoned the single seat F-50 in favor of the KAI KF-X.

Add pilot training, munitions, spares. etc.

They will also be used for interdiction, disaster response, etc... Actually ang sinasabing DR ay lalagyan ito ng kakayahan na kumuha ng mga........at idadagdag pa ang pwede mag pakawala ng BVR (Fidel Valdez Ramos).

Two will be delivered ASAP for pilot training. 10 to follow. They are our LIFT aircraft. Just pray that the next president's mindset is not "pwede na iyan, wala nang MRF."

There are many people who are scrutinizing this procurement since its inception. Baka nga may idadagdag pa ang mga kaibigan natin. Mods, kailangan lang sa wika natin.

Here's the T-50 family.....
