I just got off the phone with Sammy Gello-ani, the Cebu-based promoter of Marvin Sonsona. He told me that Sonsona had read the article I wrote two weeks ago and messaged him saying that he wanted to return back to boxing.

"Two days after, he had sent me a message saying he was coming back to the camp," said Gello-ani. "I told him, 'There was a very good writeup by Mr. Songalia.' He said: 'Yes sir, that's the reason why I'm back here.'

"I was so happy that he took the initiative. He said, 'This time I'll be good,' and he promised so many things."

That really brings a smile to my heart :) It must have been a tough article for him to read, but I'm glad it affected him enough to get his life together.

Look for him to be back in the second half of September. He says that the first week of training back in Cebu has been great.

Thank you, this is good news because Sonsona is one of my favorite fighters. So much attitude, if he can corral that for good, he's a superstar.

I spoke with Sampson Lewkowicz, he was very happy to hear of this also. So it looks like Sonsona is back in good graces.

Obviously, a lot of things still have to happen for this to work.

He has to train well. He has to have discipline. Surround him with the right people. Then listen to the right people in his camp. He has to stay away from bad elements. If these things can happen, with his natural gifts and, as you put it, his attitude, he can go far.

Perfect model for him would be Mercito Gesta. Rack up some small wins. Get some rounds in. Continue to improve. Increase the level of opposition. Build the correct mindset and lifestyle. Solidify his base.

Won't be easy, but I'll be pulling for him.

Marvin is gifted with punching power and some boxing skills. If honed properly by the likes of Freddie Roach, Roger Myweather, Garcia, Noacho Beristain , I think he can reach stardom! The boy is extremely powerful! He can punch!
Welcome back Marvin ! ! ! ! Make all Filipino proud of you! Practice hard like Manny Pacquiao! :hammer: :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

This kid was my favorite. His style is not an ALA 1 2 punch predictable combo. If he trains hard, he can still bag the gold. Hope he will have a strong comeback. :D

Thanks A.S for the lift. :D
