Let me offer some thoughts and share a bit of a fertile imagination based on some speculative behind the scene maneuverings.

I suspect, HBO and SHOWTIME is in a dilemma. Whether for real or illusion, the Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao business might be at risk if either promotions take on FLoyd's upcoming fight. It can be surmised that at HBO organizational shake up is brewing, one of the reasons of which is the bias of its former incumbents with GBP and Maynever. For HBO to take on another cherry-picking bout for Maynever would certainly reinforce a negative image and jeopardize future business with Arum/Pacquiao. On the other hand, SHOWTIME, is trying to make an impression that they can be a good alternative for HBO, wanting to capture the future events of Arum/Pacquiao.

With these dynamics, one thing is sure. Floyd cannot just pick on somebody to be his opponent for his glass house career and just expect HBO to take it on without second thoughts. This was true before his fading popularity and less scandalous past. It may also be possible that Maynever is committing himself to fight Pacquiao in the near future to HBO for him to gain the promotions support. I would imagine he is promising this to happen after a few tune-up fights. HBO may not be so gullible to believe that as they know Maynever would duck Manny at all cause and may only be conning them so that they could finance the tune-up bouts. In my opinion, behind the scene, HBO is applying some arm-twisting on Maynever for them to cash in on the Pacquiao-Maynever fight. Further with the way HBO got burned with some of GBP's boys, not being able to sell a decent amount of live tickets, HBO will be playing some hard ball this time.

Developments on which promotion would risk undertaking Maynever's scheduled September fight would be very interesting. Let's see...if GBP has enough influence and business savvy to convince HBO.
