AFC Challenge Cup Golden Shoe winner Philip Younghusband has won the Goal.com readers' Asian Player of the Month award for March.

The 24-year-old former Chelsea forward stared during March after scoring six goals at the Challenge Cup where the Azkals recorded a stunning third-place finish.

In Goal.com's readers' poll, across our 10 Asian editions, Younghusband won the vote ahead of Thailand's Suchao Nuchnum and Iran's Mohammad Nosrati as well as Dortmund's Japanese star Shinji Kagawa, who was overlooked despite a fine month in the Bundesliga.

Younghusband, who plays his club football in the Philippines with Loyola Meralco Sparks, was one of the stars of the Challenge Cup in Nepal played during March.

The England-born striker netted a brace in his side's 2-0 group stage win over India, as well as a strike in the 2-1 victory over Tajikistan which secured the Azkals progress to the knockout stage.

In the knockout stage, Younghusband again proved lethal in front of goal, but his strike in the semifinal against Turkmenistan wasn't enough as the Philippines lost 2-1. Younghusband would prove the hero in the third-place playoff with a double in the 4-3 win over Palestine.
