GARCIA vs MARTIN: Round 9
Martin still doing good work, halfway into the round and Garcia finally lands another decent right hand, but Martin is throwing with him. Garcia having a better round here, though. The second half of this round is more what he needs; still not exactly what he needs, but then what else do you do? He's not actually a power puncher, he's not actually some blistering combination puncher, and he's definitely not those things as a welterweight. But I think he won this round and I'm certain he did on the judges cards.

Garcia 10-9, Martin 86-85

GARCIA vs MARTIN: Round 10
Martin with a straight left. He HAS to fight this round like he needs to win it. Martin with two little counters. Garcia not doing anything differently than he has been, really. And certainly not more effective. Martin catches him again late. No urgency from Garcia. When he does land a couple late, Martin throws back and I think landed the better shots here.

Sandor Martin won this fight. And I'm near certain they're going to rob him.

Martin 10-9, 96-94

Sandor Martin shocks the world!

Scores were 95-95 and 97-93 twice for Martin. It's a big upset.

Martin Shocks Mikey Garcia by Majority Decision
Marc Abrams October 16, 2021

Sandor Martin got the biggest win of his career and shocked former four-division world champion by winning a 10-round majority decision in a welterweight bout in Fresno, California.

Garcia seemed to never find a rhythm in the contest as he was barely throwing any punches. Martin did not exactly light up the pace, but he landed tricky counters throughout the contest. Garcia pressed throughout, but it was the adept and pinpoint connections by Martin as he won by scores of 97-93 twice and 95-95.

Martin, 144 lbs of Barcelona, SPA is 39-2. Garcia, 143.5 lbs of Ventura, CA is 40-2.

Jonas Sultan (17-5, 11 KOs) and Carlos Caraballo (14-0, 14 KOs) both tipped the scales at 117.6 pounds during the official weigh-in for their WBO intercontinental title fight.

When Jonas Sultan slips into the ring at the Hulu theater inside the famed Madison Square Garden this Sunday, he will assume a familiar role.

A heavy underdog.

His opponent, Carlos Caraballo from talent-rich Puerto Rico, is an unbeaten prospect with 14 wins, all by knockout.

Caraballo (14-0, 14 KO), a strong amateur, has yet to go past six rounds as a professional.

Besides that imposing record, Caraballo also has home turf advantage here in New York, where a thick Puerto Rican population resides.

Per multiple sportsbooks, Sultan is plus a $425 underdog, which means a $100 wager on him wins $425 while a $600 bet on the heavily favored Caraballo collects a mere $100.

Sultan and Caraballo will square off in the ring on October 30 at Madison Square Garden in New York in a 10-round bantamweight fight as undercard of a Top Rank headliner whose main event is a junior welterweight bout between Jose Zepeda and Josue Vargas.

Apart from Jimenez, Ancajas, promoter Brendan Gibbons, and co-manager Junnie Navarro will man Sultan's corner for the career-defining war, which could result in another world title crack for Sultan or instant stardom for Caraballo.

Josue Vargas of Puerto Rico will go up against Mexico's Jose Chon Zepeda in what could be a world super lightweight eliminator while another Puerto Rican Carlos Caraballo takes on Filipino Jonas Sultan at the Hulu Theater in New York City.

Split decision, scores of 77-75 and 78-74 for Jackson, and one of 77-75 for Guzman, who appeared to out-box Jackson pretty handily most rounds, but the judges did not see it that way.

"He had an amazing camp. He worked hard, did his job and didn't cheat. That's all you can ask for a fighter and whatever happens in the ring, happens. But if Jonas can weather Carballo's early onslaught and grind the fight down the deep waters, Jonas has a great chance to win,"

Sultan (17-5, 11 KO) previously spent his career at super flyweight, notably beating John RIel Casimero by decision in 2017. He weighed in at a career-high 119 pounds for August’s stoppage of Sharone Carter, which marked his his second win since a 2019 loss to Athenkosi Dumezweni.

Caraballo doesn’t presently sit in any sanctioning bodies’ rankings, but that could change in a hurry, especially if he manages to put down the never-before-stopped Sultan.
