The idea came about as i was downloading the greatest hits of Survivor for inclusion in my playlist.

It's been my habit to download at least two links for one song to see which has the better quality sound. One particular favorite song, EVER SINCE THE WORLD BEGAN, sounded differently from the other. The first download is the one we often hear in FM stations, or the original version. And then there's the other one, the rare version which was used in Stallone's prison movie, LOCK UP. I ended up downloading both versions but the story didn't end right there.

I've always known Survivor with its lead vocalist, JIMI JAMISON. To those who don't know him, he sang live Manny Pacquiao's ring entrances in Bradley and Marquez 3 fight. Jamison also sang the popular theme for the TV series hit, Baywatch. His powerful, soulful voice once caught the attention of American disc jockey, Casey Kasem, and hailed it as Top 10 male vocalist in the world. I kinda agree with that although growing up, i often confused his voice with another fantastic singer, Steve Perry.

To make the long story short, the most unexpected part which has caught me by surprised...it wasn't Jimi Jamison who sang Ever Since the World Began. No sir. Another shocker, he didn't sing Rocky's Eye of the Tiger either. All this time i didn't know that until this weekend. Man, it sounded pretty much like him. Could anyone really tell that "Ever since the world began" and "The search is over" were belted out by two different singers? Upon my google and youtube MTV research, i found out later that the original SURVIVOR band was led by Dave Bickler. Yes, the real voice behind the iconic Eye of the Tiger and Ever since... I always knew all along that it was Jamison because Manny Pacquiao chose him to sing his ring entrance.

Well, Dave Bickler, with his trademark beret, is always considered an underrated talent. He quit the Survivor band right after the success of their most popular hits due to vocal problem. Jimi Jamison joined the band later to fill the void. Boy, what a replacement he was! To many, including me, he was a more exceptional talent. His voice more bluesy and powerful. Survivor achieved more hits and bigger success with him at the helm.

RIP Jimi Jamison.

Actors are larger than life because of their popularity and iconic roles.

But they are not actually "big or tall" in real life.

Mel Gibson is only 5'9".

Sylvester Stallone portrayed an underdog heavyweight contender/champion but most middleweight fighters are taller than him.
He is 5'9".

Tom Cruise is 5'7".

Paul Newman, 5'9 1/2".

Robert Redford, 5'10".

The Godfather, Marlon Brando, looked so imposing as the Don but he was no taller than 5'9".

Al Pacino, 5'7".

Richard Dreyfuss, 5'5".

Dustin Hoffman, 5'5".

Robert De Niro, 5'9".

Another discovery. Bruce Springsteen's Bobby Jean has always been my favorite rock song of his. Sad, nostalgic and bittersweet.
Reminds me of break ups and past exes.

Damn, it's not what it seemed pala. I thought it was some kind of love song. Bruce wrote it for his former band member, Steve Van Zandt who left the group during the recording of Born in the USA album.

It always lights up the fans whenever The Boss sings it in his concerts.

"Bobby Jean"
(Bruce Springsteen)

Well I came by your house the other day, your mother said you went away
She said there was nothing that I could have done
There was nothing nobody could say
Me and you we've known each other ever since we were sixteen
I wished I would have known I wished I could have called you
Just to say goodbye Bobby Jean

Now you hung with me when all the others turned away turned up their nose
We liked the same music we liked the same bands we liked the same clothes
We told each other that we were the wildest, the wildest things we'd ever seen
Now I wished you would have told me I wished I could have talked to you
Just to say goodbye Bobby Jean

Now we went walking in the rain talking about the pain from the world we hid
Now there ain't nobody nowhere nohow gonna ever understand me the way you did
Maybe you'll be out there on that road somewhere
In some bus or train traveling along
In some motel room there'll be a radio playing
And you'll hear me sing this song
Well if you do you'll know I'm thinking of you and all the miles in between
And I'm just calling one last time not to change your mind
But just to say I miss you baby, good luck goodbye, Bobby Jean
