“And I think (Marquez) will beat him. But I was the first one in seven years to beat him,” -- Timothy Bradley as quoted by The Desert Sun
WBO welterweight belt holder Timothy Bradley has fully assumed the role of the victor after his controversial win over Manny Pacquiao last June 9 in Las Vegas. Bradley claimed he went through video of the fight and was convinced he won, despite majority of media, boxing insiders, fellow boxers, and fans voicing their dismay over the judges decision.
"Everyone is saying I should give the belt back but I'm not giving the belt back. Everyone can forget about that. I won the fight. Everybody turn down the volume and watch the fight. You can see I won the fight," an upset Bradley said on The Boxing Lab radio show.
After initially heaping praises for Pacquiao after his loss, I mean win, at the post-fight press conference claiming that he got rocked and hurt, Bradley has somewhat slowed down with his compliments, and even started downplayng some of Pacquiao's abilities. "I took his best punch. He has good power, but Kendall Holt is a better puncher, Bradley said.
And recently, Bradley was quoted by The Desert Sun stating that an immediate rematch with Pacquiao may not be in the cards, since he believes that Pacquiao will go for a fourth fight with Marquez in November, adding that that he thinks the Mexican legend will win. "I think (Marquez) will beat him. But I was the first one in seven years to beat him,” Bradley told the crowd that gathered to celebrate his win in his hometown of Cathedral City, California.
As far as those saying he did not deserve to win against Pacquiao, Bradley sent a mesage loud and clear: “Forget all the doubters and haters,” Bradley said. “I know there's a lot of Pacquiao fans, but it doesn't matter because I brought the belt back to Cathedral City. We're 29-0, so keep hating.”
