Projection the lowest since Clottey fight

MANILA, Philippines – Top Rank’s Bob Arum said he expects the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley fight to breach the 900,000 pay-per-view (PPV) buy mark.

The PPV buys banked solely on Pacquiao’s popularity since his opponent, Bradley, was not so well-known to casual fight fans.

"First of all, the closed circuit was off the charts....the biggest Manny closed circuit eve,” Arum said on Boxing Scene.

“The pay-per-view, that's still being counted, but it will be anywhere between 900K and a million, which is very good,” the boxing promoter added.

The fight, won by Bradley via a disputable split decision, generated a live gate of $8,963,180 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas - with 13,229 tickets sold.

The 900,000 PPV projection is Pacquiao’s lowest since his WBO title defense against defense-conscious Joshua Clottey.

The Clottey fight, which took place in 2010, generated over 700,000 PPV buys.

But Arum said the Pacquiao fight went against the NBA Semifinal Game between Miami Heat and Boston Celtics.

“Considering that we were up against the [Heat vs. Celtics] basketball game, considering that nobody knew who Bradley was... We are definitely going to do over 900K," said Arum.

After the Clottey fight, Pacquiao drew over 1 million PPV buys in each of his succeeding bouts.

Pacquiao registered 1.5 million buys in his fight against Antonio Margarito in 2010, followed by 1.3 million buys in his 2011 fight against Shane Mosley.

His third bout against Juan Manuel Marquez generated 1.41 million PPV buys.

I predicted the fight will breach 1M PPV buys. Still not bad at all! :)
