No great boxer ever retired because his wife said so. At least, none that i know of. Boxers are stubborn, they always think that still have one big fight left in them. Those who quit while still at the top of their game are very few to mention. Marciano, Lennox Lewis, Finito Lopez, 97% or more are probably the ratio of fighters who quit on a losing streak.
Marquez ain't gonna turn his back on boxing. It's his life.
Lewis retired instead of rematching with V Klit
He knew the rematch would have been a lot tougher than the
first fight.
Juan gave it all in his win against Pac.
He might be all spent.
He got hit close to 100 times in 6 rounds.
He might be thinking Pac might get me the next time.
Lewis was clearly diminished when he beat Vitali. Juan was in better shape than him when he beat Pacquiao. On top of consideration, Lewis had already earned a lot of dough as PPV main attraction before he retired while Marquez was always "the other guy" in his few PPV appearances. History tells us that Marquez is not always smart, as he is in the ring, when making career decisions.
He might take a year or two years off but Marquez will come back again for the same reason Larry Holmes and George Foreman came back coz they got bored playing with their grandchildren and they missed boxing. The training preparation, the camp, the smell of the gym, the noises, the adulation, the thrill, the violence and of course, the money.
