Upon reading wikipedias version of Parkinsons Disease, I never encountered something that attributes head injuries as one of the causes of the disease.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkinson's_disease

its more of a normal wear and tear of our brain cells
chemical imbalance of our brain
genetically related
dopamine not functioning
etc. etc.

those who are at risk:

those who are old
those who dont smoke
those who have family history of PD
etc etc

asian and african genes are at low risk.

Prevention:

smoking
anti inflamatory drugs
early detection

though manny is not smoking thereby including him at of grdmater risk, his daily dose of alaxan saves him from acquiring the disease

please do enlighten us folks of what you have found. its not only pacquiaos concern. its everybodys.

by the way, i would rather die due to lung cancer because of smoking rather than of Parkinsons for not smoking. smoking what? weeds? ask JCC jr.

Im not a medical expert but don't we think that the wear & tear of brain cells can be a bi product of head injuries a boxer got from his/her previous fights then how did Ali & Roach acquired their PD. How did they get it mainly from considering that both of them are former
boxer?

Just my take 8)

it might have been just coincident. No scientific proof that a head intury causes PD, all claims were just theories.

I didn't know that smoking is good for the brain. The dept. of education should promote smoking for students. :D

its good only for parkinsons as nicotine produces dopamine. inadequate dopamine is responsible for parkinsons.

Its irritating me already, guys I'm a license medical doctor... All that claims of that doctor who diagnosed pacman on TV are all BS... How can you diagnose a patient base on general appearance... We have to do a complete history & physical examination. Early signs and the most common sign of pakingsons disease is AKINISIA, which means slowliness in movement. Manny pacquiao was damn fast during fight night... And there are other accompanying symptoms such as cogwheel rigidity & slurring of speech. Yeah pacquiao was stuttering during interview, that was because he was having difficulty speaking English...

Common guys... Pacquiao is fine...

trans - thanks for the heads up, doc.

The problem in parkingsons is the lack of dopamine, which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Meaning it inhibits the neural pathway... Nicotine is an excitatory neurotransmitter meaning its stimulates... A lack of inhibitory would results to over stimulations... That is why there is movemement tremors. So how come nicotine is preventive which promotes excitation... It should further worsen the disease...
