there's no doubt that manny still has the edge over jmm in terms of hand speed. but if there's anyone among manny's previous opponents who has the capability to find ways to counter punch manny effectively, it can only be jmm. before their 4th encounter, many were clamoring that manny should apply the phone booth style of boxing against jmm because many thought it was the best style to neutralize jmm's counter punching prowess. manny did just that and was leading in all score cards until that fateful final second of the 6th rd. if i have to see them fight again, i would love to see manny do the same style though he has to be more cautious in his defenses, find the right range early and unload combos.
No he wasn't. If Manny stayed in the pocket longer, it would be to JMM's advantage. Pacquiao has the advantage in footspeed as well. If he engaged in a phone booth war, he would just be wasting this edge. He was using his feints well, freezing Marquez on his tracks , shooting the left hand, and rolling to the right or to JMM's left. He had success with the right hook and buckled Marquez's legs when it connected, so use it more frequently to mix up his offense and add a new wrinkle to his game. Never retreat in a straight line against JMM, use angles even on exit strategies so JMM won't be able to line him up for a counter.
AND TRAIN , TRAIN , TRAIN. You cannot teach an old dog new tricks but you can minimize his flaws. He was winning the fight when he was doing the right thing. Remember that Pacquiao lost because he committed a mistake in his overeagerness to go for the kill.
Oh by the way , it's true that Pacquiao was leading but HE WAS LEADING ONLY BY A POINT AND IT'S STILL A LONG WAY TO GO. Of course Pacquiao had the edge because Marquez was already bleeding badly from what appeared to be a broken nose at that time.
And instead of that doggone double fake pump, if there's still time , develop a more potent and real jab which will catch JMM's attention.
