Both Roach & Garcia are having an amazing year with their notable boxers winning but last night was probably the tiebreaker between the two who are presumably in the running for the Trainer of the Year award.

If Maidana upsets Broner, Garcia wins it .
Right now, Roach is ahead I think.

That's right. Maidana switched to Robert Garcia. I'm pulling for Maidana in that fight. F*ck Broner. We'll see, maybe the media will see the PAC-Rios fight as the deciding fight since they went head to head against each other.

how about the losses? donaire lost in april for garcia. and martisrosyan lost to andrade for roach. that donaire loss is the bigger of the two i think.

That's true but Donaire has done more for Garcia than Garcia has done for Donaire imo considering Donaire has been arguably the most dominant boxer Garcia has cornered up until the loss to Rigo. Nonito basically trains himself as well as Mikey Garcia who is being trained primarily by his father. Robert, on paper, is the main cornerman on fight night.

It's quite strange that boxers winning their fights is a deciding factor for judging trainers here in this forum.
It is almost obvious that Pac vs Rios showed that Freddie Roach is a better trainer than Garcia. Pac fought with a game plan and you can see on how Manny hits then turns to his right. Pac did a hit and don't get hit strategy, followed it and it worked against a slugger and power puncher. Pac also concentrated on hitting the body of Rios in the early rounds and those body shots made Rios weaker as the rounds progresses. Rios fought the same style without any improvement as compared to his fights against Alvarado. What the hell is Garcia's game plan?
If there is one, if plan A didn't work, he has to execute plan B. Rios fought one of the best and quickest fighter in Manny Pacquiao and it seems he did not have any plan or a change in strategy except that Garcia and his team were hoping that Pac was. not the same fighter anymore and can be KO'd just like in his last fight with JMM. That just shows that Robert Garcia is a B class trainer when compared to Freddie Roach.

excellent take. no planB means doomed to fail if planA doesnt work for a couple of rounds.
