It's been 4 weeks since the Gayweather v. Ortiz fight and still, no word from HBO as to the true PPV sales. Numbers and guesstimates have been mentioned: 1.7 M to 2 M (Golden Girl Promotions, hype), 850K (Steve Kim, hearsay), Nine, Nine, Nine ("Marley the Magnificent", humor), 500K (Brad Cooney, rumor).

Only HBO can clear this mud. So, HBO what is the true figure? I ask you to speak now or forever hold your piece (peace).

The official PPV figures will only be released after the PAC vs. JMM fight. If the PAC fight makes 1.5M buys, HBO will just say that Floyd vs. Quitter Ortiz got 1.45 to 1.55M to satisfy Floyd's ego!

As long as the PPV buys of the FISOP vs Ortiz is less than 1 million buys, then I can openly say that FISOP is no longer the "Cash Cow of Boxing". Amen!!!!

Now where's that id!ot FH Editor guy who came up with 1.3 million PPV figure. Until now, Floydhype has not posted a follow up article that would have corroborated their earlier estimate. Even flomo extraordinaire Vivek Wallace is uncharacteristically silent up to this point. It looks like they did a poor PR job and Floyd may not be too keen to renew their services in his next fight. It's kind of embarrassing to be a flomo nowadays. :biglaugh:

HBO remains silent.

Floydhype remains silent.

Like what that song says: "Silence like a cancer grows."

Conclusion: Gayweather v. Ortiz PPV sales is DISMAL. But HBO will never release this news to the media unless they are ready to diss Gayweather. Read on.

Implication: If Pacquiao v. Marquez PPV sales reaches beyond Arum's expectations (likely) and much better than Gayweather v. Ortiz's (most likely), Pacquiao ceases the upperhand in negotiations (purse) if ever there is a Pacquiao v. Gayweather.

Impact on the future of Pacquiao v. Gayweather: Don't hold your breath. Gayweather will retire for good and hold on to his "zero" rather than take a purse equal to or lower than Pacquiao's.

Just my 2 cents.

I should say, seizes (not ceases). Mea culpa.
