Let's not complain about the shooting as long as we win the game.
Gilas was able to hold Kazahk to 30% shooting and 18% from 3.
While Gilas on the other hand shoot 45% and 30% from deep.

Nice win.. :D

Guiao sees Clarkson fitting in well with PHL team

Jordan Clarkson on Thursday arrived at the venue in Indonesia in time to see the Philippine team put the finishing touches in its 96-59 win to open their campaign in the Asian Games basketball tournament.

The Cleveland Cavaliers guard is expected to suit up for Team Pilipinas on August 21 against China, and coach Yeng Guiao sees no issue with him fitting in.

"Kung kasing galing naman ni Clarkson makakasama mo, siguro that's a good problem blending him in," Guiao said shortly after the Philippines' win.

Clarkson will be joining a solid backcourt lineup that also features Stanley Pringle, who led the Pinoys with 18 points in their debut game. With Pringle leading the charge, the Philippines showed its defensive bite in limiting Kazakhstan to a miserable 30 percent shooting clip from the field.

“We were able to disrupt their offense. We were able to challenge their shots," said Guiao, who praised his coaching staff for preparing the squad.

"Our anticipation was good and that’s because of the scouting that we did and the implementation and the execution of our game plan,” he added.

With Jordan Clarkson watching, Gilastopainters rip Kazakhstan in opener
by REUBEN TERRADO

JAKARTA – The Philippines started its Asian Games men’s basketball campaign on an impressive note, beating Kazakhstan, 96-59, on Thursday at the GBK Basketball Hall to move closer to a quarterfinal berth.

Banking on its defense and smooth execution on the offensive end, the nationals mounted a big lead in the first half and never looked back.

The Philippines got the job done in beating Kazakhstan, the match head coach Yeng Guiao sees as the most critical in the ‘Gilastopainters’ campaign if the Nationals want to go deep into the Asiad basketball tournament.

The Philippines will next face China on Tuesday with Jordan Clarkson expected to play.

The win, in all likelihood, will put the Philippines in the quarterfinals barring any major upset in China’s game against Kazakhstan on August 23.

Clarkson arrived at the GBK Basketball Hall during the third quarter, immediately joining the team at the bench.

The Philippines forced Kazakhstan to a sour 4-of-23 from the field for a 41-20 lead at the half.

Stanley Pringle had 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting, while Christian Standhardinger had 15 points for the Philippines, which took control early, 12-2. The Nationals made it 16-5 before ending the first period at 16-9.

The Gilastopainters wrested a 20-9 advantage in the second quarter on a triple by James Yap, who had 12 points in his return to international play.

The Philippines led by as many as 37 points.

Anton Bykov had 13 points for Kazakhstan, which shot 18 of 60 from the field.

The scores:

Philippines 96 – Pringle 18, Standhardinger 15, Yap 12, Lee 10, Tiu 9, Norwood 7, Almazan 6, Erram 5, Belga 5, Taulava 5, Ahanmisi 4.

China is a different animal.
With the ragtag team we have, I think we would not even beat China's Team B..

But who knows, lady luck will be with us next week...
Kahit anong tira, kahit nakapikit, papasok..
And China's shots won't fall..
Winning by 1 point against China will be much sweeter than winning by 37 against Kazahkstan... :D

Good win for Gilas :)

Nice chances going forward too with Pringle making the difference along with Standhardinger as a willing co-actor. Clarkson will be Clarkson and will be making his own shots plus the intimidating factor.

Close win for Gilas against the tsekwas
