Jordan Clarkson to play basketball at Mizzou

Columbia, Mo (KSDK) -- A Tulsa University guard has signed a scholarship agreement to transfer to the University of Missouri-Columbia to play basketball for Frank Haith.

Jordan Clarkson, is a 6-4, 188-pound guard from San Antonio, Texas. He spent the past two years playing at Tulsa where he led the Goldern Hurricane in scoring as a sophomore. He averaged 16.5 points per game.

Per NCAA transfer rules, Clarkson will sit out the 2012-13 season, and have two years of eligibility remaining, beginning in 2013-14.

"We're very pleased to have Jordan join our program," said Haith. "Jordan is a combo guard with a wide variety of skills, someone who can do a lot of things for you. He's a point guard with tremendous scoring ability, and having him is crucial to helping us achieve balance in our classes. He'll benefit from being in the program for a year before he gets out there, and I know he'll take every advantage of the next year to be ready to go when it's his time. He's a high-quality kid who will fit very well with our culture at Mizzou, and Tiger fans will enjoy having him represent the program," Haith said.

LAST UPDATED 4 days and 7 hours ago

Sophomore guard Jordan Clarkson will transfer from Tulsa to Missouri, CBSSports.com reports.

Clarkson was chosen for a spot on the All-Conference USA first-team this past season, becoming Tulsa's youngest first-team all-conference selection since Shea Seals in 1994-95.

He averaged 16.5 points per game and led the Golden Hurricane to a third-place finish in the conference.

"I'm comfortable with Coach Haith and the team," Clarkson told the website. "Coach Haith's had a lot of success with transfers, and it just felt like the right place for me."

UCLA, Illinois, Duke and Arizona also showed interest in Clarkson.

Missouri coach Frank Haith has added several transfers this offseason, including former UConn C Alex Oriakhi as well as Jabari Brown (Oregon), Keion Bell (Pepperdine) and Earnest Ross (Auburn).

Chris Banchero stats
18 pts, 15 assts, 6 stls

San Miguel 111-104 KL Dragons
(game 1 of ABL semis)

The hype for the playoff series between the first seeded team San Miguel Beermen and fourth ranked team Westports Malaysia Dragons exceeded all expectations this afternoon. It was a nail-biting game one where both teams kept exchanging leads and made big play after big play to find them tied at 95 all at the end of the fourth quarter.

In the end however, the home team executed better in overtime and survived game 1 with the 111-104 win. Nick Fazekas led the Beermen with 32 points while Duke Crews added 25 points and 11 rebounds. Beermen’s Fil-Italian guard Chris Banchero had his best game so far in the AirAsia ABL wtih 18 points, 15 assists and 6 steals.

The Beermen overcame a huge game from the Dragons’ big man Brian Williams who almost recorded a triple-double. Williams finished with 32 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists.

“Williams had a huge game. He made a couple of big shots from the three point line.” said Beermen’s coach Bobby Parks.

Banchero was very pleased with his team winning the first game in the series which was played at Olivarez Gym in Paranaque City. “We knew going into the series it will be a very tough series. I’m glad we came out with a win today.” said Banchero.

The Beermen rallied from a 9 point deficit, riding on the hot hand of Nick Fazekas. The 6’11’’ center hit back to back three-point shots to give Beermen a 67-64 lead with 4:45 left in the third quarter.

Both the Beermen and the Dragons players kept hitting big shots in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter. A tip-in by Crews off Banchero’s missed free throw gave the Beermen a 91-88 lead with 1:58 left, but Williams answered right away with a three-point shot to tie the game at 91.Cabahug

Crews tied the game at 95 with his dunk and Tiras Wade lost the ball on the next possession to give Beermen a chance to win the game in regulation. Off the timeout, Banchero drove the ball inside to suck in the Dragons’ defense and he kicked out the ball to Fazekas who was standing alone at the three point line. Unfortunately Fazekas’ shot did not go in and the game had to be decided in overtime.

It was all Beermen in the overtime. Banchero made a tough lay-up over Williams and Avenido converted a reverse lay-up plus a free throw to give Beermen a 100-95 in the opening of the overtime period. Avenido also made a reverse a lay-up for the 104-100 lead with 1:11 left. Avenido finished the game with 17 points.

With 16 seconds left in overtime and the scoreline at 108-103, the Dragons failed to commit a quick foul which allowed the Beermen to melt the clock to 6 seconds. Fazekas only made one out of his two free throws but it was enough for the Beermen to grab game 1.

Despite the win, Beermen’s coach Parks wants his team to improve defensively in game 2. “We can do a lot better in defense, but I like the character of my team today.” said coach Parks after the game.

Patrick Cabahug had a huge game for the Dragons with 24 points but he was held scoreless in the overtime. The league’s leading scorer Tiras Wade did not have his best shooting night as he finished with 23 points on an 8 of 21 shooting. Nic Belasco added a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds

The Dragons will look to regroup in game 2 which will be held on their homecourt, MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia next Saturday the 2nd of June 2012.

Beermen: Nick Fazekas – 32, Duke Crews – 25, Chris Banchero – 18, Leo Avenido – 17, Junmar Fajardo – 11, Roger Yap – 6, Norman Gonzales - 2.

Dragons: Brian Williams – 32, Patrick Cabahug – 24, Tiras Wade – 23, Nic Belasco – 11, Guga Batumalai – 6, Chris Pacana – 5, Seelan Kuppusamy – 3.
