LeBronWatch: Kawhi To The Cavs, Keeping LeBron Put

From Cleveland.com’s Terry Pluto comes a report that the Cleveland Cavaliers “are one of several teams making calls to San Antonio about Kawhi Leonard.”

We already know that LeBron James definitely will leave in free agency this summer to play in New York, Denver, Los Angeles, and not Houston, and this newest report of phone calls confirms that he is a lock to stick with the Cavs.

Bringing the NBA’s premier two-way wing to Cleveland would convince LeBron James to pick up his player option for the 2018-19 season. It’s extremely easy to see how it would all go down: an enticing package of former Spur and 32-year-old George Hill, Cedi Osman, the No. 8 pick, and the rights to LeBron James Jr. should beat anything else that the Spurs could get for Leonard, who has been clamoring to get out of San Antonio. And the possibility of relocating to Ohio should override Leonard’s reported preference for Los Angeles or New York.

California was never going to happen for Kawhi, anyway: Chris Sheridan’s report at GetMoreSports said the Spurs will not deal Leonard within the Western Conference. If the Spurs are seeking an Eastern Conference trade partner loaded with juicy assets—promising young players, future first-rounders—then their only plausible option is, of course, Cleveland. You heard it here: LeBron James isn’t going anywhere this summer. Tyronn Lue’s posture is about to improve dramatically.

Report: Chris Paul believes LeBron James doesn't want to be in Houston, prefers L.A.

Jason Owens

Yahoo SportsJune 19, 2018
The summer of LeBron James continues with more reporting on Monday that James doesn’t want to be in Houston.

Stephen A. Smith said on his ESPN podcast on Monday that Rockets guard Chris Paul is telling people in Houston not to get their hopes up for the NBA’s biggest free agent prize. Paul, a long-time friend of James, has reportedly said that James doesn’t want to be in Houston and would rather end up in Los Angeles.

“Chris Paul is telling folks LeBron ain’t trying to come to Houston, he wants to be in L.A.,” Smith said.

Not the first report that James doesn’t like Houston

His report jibes with Akron Beacon Journal reporter Marla Ridenour saying last week thatJames does not like the city of Houston.

“I heard this from his own lips when we were in Houston this season,” Ridenour told ESPN Radio. “He does not like Houston as a city. So, that would require him moving to a place that he’s not crazy about.”

Paul reportedly recruiting James to Houston regardless

If Paul genuinely believes James has his heart set on L.A., that’s apparently not stopping him from trying to lure James. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said Monday night that Paul is expected to remain with the Rockets and is focused on recruiting his friend to join him and James Harden in Houston.

This matches with a report from the New York Times’ Marc Stein that Paul began pitching James shortly after the end of his season.

From Stein’s newsletter:

Rest assured that the Rockets’ understandably devastated Chris Paul — who made a fast exit from Toyota Center late Monday night after being forced to watch the biggest game of his life from the bench because of his hamstring injury — has already begun his recruitment of James to Houston.

NBA free agency doesn’t officially start until July 1, leaving plenty of time for recruiting pitches and changes of heart.

Until then, expect the James rumors to come fast and furious.

REPORT: LeBron Scanning Market to See If Players Will Join Him in Cleveland

News around the NBA these days is generally concentrated on the excitement and mystery surrounding the upcoming 2018 NBA Draft. However, there is also the impending free agency of several superstars who may be moving to different addresses before the 2018-19 season starts.

Among these players, LeBron James is the biggest name whose future destination will send shockwaves across the league if he moves. He is expected to opt out of the $35.6 million player option in the final year of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers and become a free agent in July. Though many expect him to leave, there is a belief that James will be inclined to re-sign with the Cavs given the right situation.

In fact, James has reportedly already made some calls to get a feel for players who would want to join him in his quest for a fourth championship in Cleveland.

Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com recently reported that the four-time MVP is in touch with the team’s front office lately as it seeks to improve the roster.

“According to sources, the Cavs’ front office and James’ camp have been in contact over the phone and in person, though there has been no meeting with James present, nor has there been any real dialogue as far as James’ future is concerned.

“Because the superstar himself doesn’t know.

“The Cavs have been signaling (strongly, in some cases) that they’re looking to upgrade their team from the group that was swept out of the Finals this month, whether James stays or goes.

“They are taking calls from teams looking to move up in the draft via trade, and are seeking proven NBA vets whose presence would both improve the roster and be enticing to James.”

In a perfect world, the Cavs could potentially draft an impact player and trade him to the San Antonio Spurs, along with a few other assets, in exchange for Kawhi Leonard. If they can keep Kevin Love while making the trade happen, then the Wine and Gold will most certainly be in play to secure the services of James for a few more years.

The draft will be held on Thursday and all eyes will be on the Cavs as to who they will select. If that turns out to be a player that the Spurs (or any other team looking to move a superstar) wants, then chances are huge that James stays in Cleveland to make another run at a championship or two in the coming years.

Where will LeBron go?

LeBron James has a big decision to make this summer. Where should he play next season? Here's the reason for why he should play for every team in the NBA.
