Westbrook first to record five straight triple-doubles since Jordan in 1989

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Russell Westbrook became the first NBA player with five consecutive triple-doubles since Michael Jordan had seven straight in 1989.

Westbrook got his fifth on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans, clinching it on an assist to Enes Kanter for a dunk with 2:14 left in the third quarter. Westbrook finished with 28 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists. He also had 10 turnovers, becoming the first player to reach double-figures in all four categories since Jason Kidd in 2000.

The Thunder defeated the Pelicans 101-92, improving to 8-2 this season when Westbrook records a triple-double.

Westbrook's 10 triple-doubles are almost as many as the rest of the NBA combined (11). He reached 10 triple-doubles in Oklahoma City's 21st game of the season, faster than any player in NBA history since Oscar Robertson needed just 12 games in 1961.

Westbrook is averaging 31 points, 10.8 rebounds and 11.3 assists for the season, his ninth in the NBA. His 47 career triple-doubles are sixth most in NBA history.

Robertson is the only player to average a triple-double for an entire campaign, achieving the feat with 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 11.4 assists over 79 games in 1961-62. Robertson also averaged a cumulative triple-double over his first five seasons.

Most consecutive triple-doubles, NBA history

9 -- Wilt Chamberlain (1968)

7 -- Michael Jordan (1989); Oscar Robertson (1961)

5 -- Robertson (1961); Robertson (1962); Chamberlain (1968); Westbrook (current)

Most triple-doubles, NBA history

181 -- Oscar Robertson

138 -- Magic Johnson

107 -- Jason Kidd

78 -- Wilt Chamberlain

59 -- Larry Bird

47 -- Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook extends triple-double streak to career-best 6 games as Thunder stay hot

ATLANTA -- Make it 6-for-6 for Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder: six straight triple-doubles for Westbrook and six straight wins as the Thunder held on to beat the Atlanta Hawks 102-99 on Monday.

Westbrook, who started just 1-of-8 from the floor, finished with 32 points on 10-of-22 shooting, plus 13 rebounds and 12 assists to record his 11th triple-double of the season.

"I get satisfaction in winning," Westbrook said. "That's the most important part to me. My guys do an amazing job of working on their games and making my job easy, and my job's to be able to find those guys."

Westbrook recorded this triple midway through the third quarter, setting up Victor Oladipo for an and-1 layup. Of Westbrook's 48 career triple-doubles, Monday marked the 19th time he completed the feat before the end of the third quarter. That's the most three-quarter triple-doubles in the NBA since the start of Westbrook's career, with James Harden and Steph Curry tied for second with four.

Russell Westbrook doesn't waste time for triple-double No. 15

Another night, another stat sheet stuffed. Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook continued to show off his versatility on the court, recording his 15th triple-double of the season -- 29 points, 17 rebounds, 11 assists -- in a 106-94 win over the Miami Heat. His most recent one gave him 30 triple-doubles in this calendar year, second most by any player in NBA history behind, you guessed it, Oscar Robertson in 1961. The Thunder improved to 12-3 when Westbrook records a triple-double.

Westbrook accounted for 51 percent of the Thunder offense on Tuesday (29 points scored, 26 points from 11 assists). It was the 11th time that he reached that mark in a triple-double this season. Steven Adams continued to be the main beneficiary of Westbrook's passes. Adams was on the receiving end of four of Westbrook's assists and for the season is shooting 66.7 percent off of his passes, highest on the team.

What made this triple-double more special than most was the short amount of time it took for Westbrook to hit the magic number.

At halftime, Westbrook had 12 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds, marking the fourth time this season that he had a double-double with points and assists at halftime. In just 23 minutes and 51 seconds of playing time, Westbrook recorded his third-fastest triple-double this season with a defensive rebound at the 6:39 mark in the third quarter. It was his sixth triple-double through three quarters this season, double the amount of the rest of the NBA.

`RWestbrook is having a fantastic season,
an MVP-type feat almost triple-double average in
points, rebounds and assist.....,,,

and guess what...

was not chosen as an all-star starter.

Russell Westbrook's 28th triple-double this season was an odd one

Russell Westbrook stretched the meaning of mercurial to its finest proportion Friday in a 110-93 win over the Lakers.

The Thunder's All-Star point guard recorded his 28th triple-double of the season by pouring in 17 points with 18 rebounds and 17 assists, but was also shot just 4 of 18 from the field and turned the ball over six times.

Westbrook is only the person since 1983-84 to have at least 17 points, 18 rebounds, and 17 assists in a game. Wilt Chamberlain is the only player in NBA history with a 20-20-20 game, which came during the 1967-68 season.

There is no doubt Westbrook is a special basketball player, yet sometimes he looks a little more impressive on the stat line than he does while actually watching the game. His shot just has not improved.

Andre Roberson responded to the competition of newly acquired Doug McDermott by dropping a career-high 19 points while shooting 8 of 9 from the field and hauling in seven rebounds.

McDermott (8) and fellow former Bull Taj Gibson (12) combined to score 20 points in their Thunder debuts.

NBA: Russell Westbrook, with another triple-double, leads the Thunder past the Spurs

Russell Westbrook had his 31st triple-double of the season to help the host Oklahoma City Thunder beat San Antonio, 102-92, on Thursday night, snapping the Spurs’ nine-game winning streak

Westbrook had 23 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists to match Wilt Chamberlain’s 1967-68 campaign for the second-most triple-doubles in a season. Victor Oladipo scored 20 points for the Thunder, who ended a four-game skid.
