Magaling ang bagong import ng SMB...

New import Terik Bridgeman bombed for San Miguel as he was limited to just two points on 1-4 shooting in 21 minutes. He also had six turnovers.

Ginebra plays Grand Slam spoiler, clobbers SMB to march on to Governors Cup semifinals

From: Karlo Sacamos September 27, 2017, 09:09 pm

BARANGAY Ginebra refused to show some brotherly love as it shut down fan insinuations on the way to spoiling a sister team’s ambitious quest this season.

The Gin Kings picked the best time to play their best game as they outclassed San Miguel Beer, 104-84, on Wednesday night to deny the Beermen a grand slam this season in the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinal matchup.

Justin Brownlee came prepared and stuffed the stats sheet as usual, getting plenty of help from Joe Devance, Japeth Aguilar, and Greg Slaughter, while the playmakers ran the show as the Gin Kings turned an expected bloodbath into a cakewalk in front of sizeable crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The twice-to-beat Gin Kings thus finished off the Beermen in just one try in impressive fashion to advance to the semifinals opposite the survivor of the TNT KaTropa-Rain or Shine quarterfinal matchup.

“Who would’ve thought this was coming?” Gin Kings coach Tim Cone asked as he sat down for the post-game conference. “We just played great from start to finish.”

“It’s just one of those nights,” he added. “It came at a bad time for them and we were on our game.”

The Gin Kings’ best-of-five Final Four series against the Texters-E-Painters matchup winner will start on Monday night at the Big Dome.

Brownlee registered 37 points, 12 boards, two assists, four blocks, and one steals with less than two minutes of rest, scattering 16 of his scoring output in the second quarter where the Gin King started to break away after a nip-and-tuck battle in the first quarter.

Devance added 17 points, built around four triples, while twin towers Slaughter and Aguilar chipped in 13 points apiece.

Sol Mercado broke out of his slump as he buried three treys, while LA Tenorio contributed eight points, 10 assists, and two steals.

Scottie Thompson grabbed 13 boards and dished out four assists, but also squeezed in some offense as he knocked down the three-pointer that gave the Gin Kings their biggest lead at 102-72.

Terrence Watson led the Beermen with 30 points, but 23 came in the second half where his team was already stuck in a huge double-digit hole.

June Mar Fajardo added 19 points, 22 boards, and five blocks, but found little help as Arwind Santos, Alex Cabagnot, and Chris Ross picked the worst time to have off nights.

The scores:

GINEBRA 104 – Brownlee 37, Devance 17, Aguilar J. 13, Slaughter 13, Mercado 9, Tenorio 8, Thompson 7, Mariano 0

SMB 84 – Watson 30, Fajardo 19, Lassiter 13, Cabagnot 8, Santos 6, Ross 5, Espinas 3, Rosser 0, De Ocampo 0

Quarterscores: 23-23, 45-32, 74-61, 104-84
