Porzingis has been brilliant in his first 15 NBA games. In 26.9 minutes per game, the 7-foot-3 power forward/center is averaging 13.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. He’s shooting 42 percent from the field, 34 percent from three-point range and 84 percent from the free-throw line.

Lets compare at the end of this season

Yao Rookie Year
GP : 82 GS :72
13.5pts 8.2Rebs 1.8blk .498fg

Sampson Rookie year
GP : 82 GS :82
21.0pts 11.1Rebs 2.4BLK .524Fg

15 yung nasa jersey nung draft day (page1)

The number continues his career tradition.

Porzingis wears No. 6 for the Latvian national team. He also donned the number when playing for Baloncesto Sevilla of Spain’s vaunted Liga ACB.
In a sport where superstitions are far more prevalent than one might believe, getting a desired jersey number can be critical.
Or it can just be financially beneficial.

This won’t make Porzingis any better or worse as a talent, but it will give the Knicks a jersey to sell. It’ll also give Porzingis a nickname to be known by: KP6.

Porzingis follows in the footsteps of two former Knicks big men who wore the No. 6 uniform: Tyson Chandler and Willie Naulls. Mike Riordan and Trent Tucker also held the distinction, but Chandler and Naulls stand out.
The hope in New York is that Porzingis can have as much of a positive impact as Chandler and Naulls.
Chandler won Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 and transformed the culture in New York. Naulls was a four-time All-Star who ranks No. 5 on the Knicks’ all-time total rebounds list.
If Porzingis can come anywhere close to performing at that level, he’ll do the No. 6 jersey proud.

Kristaps Porzingis holds up a Knicks jersey at the NBA Draft -- though he won't wear No. 15, which is retired in honor of Earl Monroe and **** McGuire.
