Totoo naman ang sabi ni Coach Tim Cone na posible na isa ang “Cyber Bullying” sa mga dahilan o factors kung bakit nagplanong magpahinga muna sa basketball si Greg Slaughter. Mahirap talaga sa mundong eto, may kasabihan nga “You cannot please everybody.” Or para lang ung story ng “The Man, The Wife, The Donkey and The Critics.”

Another prospect in discussion to join the G League professional pathway is McDonald's All American Isaiah Todd, the No. 13 player in the 2020 ESPN 100. He decommitted from Michigan this week. Other uncommitted prospects, including Makur Maker, Karim Mane and Kai Sotto, could be candidates to join Green in the program, sources said.

Report: Kai Sotto may enter NBA G League select program
Luisa Morales (Philstar.com) - April 17, 2020 - 4:13pm

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino basketball phenom Kai Sotto may be following in the footsteps of Fil-Am Jalen Green in committing to the NBA G League.

In a report by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Jonathan Givony, the 7'2" Sotto is one of the prospects to be fielded by the G League with Green in a yearlong developmental program that will include professional coaching and exhibition games with top teams.

The report comes as part of Green's announcement that he will be foregoing college to join the ranks of the NBA G League.

Green, who has Filipino roots on his mother side, was listed as the top recruit in ESPN's Class of 2020 and is projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA draft.

Among other prospects to join the program apart from Sotto are Kenya's Makur Maker and Canadian Karim Mane.

ESPN's report said that the plan for the select program squad is to combine the team with veteran players that can serve as mentors to the likes of Sotto and Green.

The team will then be exposed to intense training and will test their mettle against existing NBA G-League teams, foreign national teams and NBA academies throughout the world.

Wojnarowski and Givony added that former NBA Coach of the Year Sam Mitchell is one of the frontrunners to serve as the tactician for the program.

Inclusion in the NBA G League program will surely be a a big boost to Green, and possibly Sotto's, NBA dream.

7-Footer Kai Sotto Of The Philippines Is Latest To Sign With NBA G League
Adam Zagoria
SportsMoney

FORT WAYNE, IN - Kai Sotto, the 7-foot native of the Philippines, will become the first international player to enter the new NBA G League pathway, a source confirmed.

The news was first reported by The Athletic. It was previously reported in this space that the G League was interested in Sotto, a raw but talented prospect who spent this past season at The Skill Factory in Atlanta.

“Yeah, I think there’s options out there to add more and they don’t have to be high school guys, they can be young international guys,” G League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim, the No. 3 pick in the 1996 NBA Draft, said last month. “We’ve had conversations there but there is opportunity for more of the high school guys, more young guys, to be a part of the program this year. If not, with Jalen and Isaiah, we think it’s totally fine.”

Sotto will join Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix among players to play for the new “Select Team” that is expected to be based in the Los Angeles area. The team will play a limited schedule and won’t be affiliated with any individual G League franchise. All of those players will earn six-figure salaries, with Green, who is of Filipino origin, reportedly set to make $500,000.

Some G League targets have instead opted for college. Greg Brown, the 6-9 forward from Texas, committed to Texas last month instead of accepting a $300,000 deal in the G League.

Another G League target, Makur Maker, a 6-11 big man originally from Kenya who was raised in Australia, is now focusing on American colleges, with Kentucky and UCLA the “most consistent in communicating.”

“The NBA G League reached out and approached my coach, but if it’s not the NBA then I’m going to go to college because I’m young and still want to learn more,” Maker told 247.

The G League is making strong moves for a number of elite high school prospects after watching American teen sensations LaMelo Ball and R.J. Hampton leave America last season to play in the Australian NBL. Both are projected lottery picks in this year’s NBA Draft, which may not happen until August or September due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The NBA G League made a statement by raising the stakes and ante as it pertains to Jalen Green,” said Evan Daniels, national scouting director for 247Sports.com. “They will add more names. The NBA wanted this to be a viable option, but they had to raise the stakes and the investment in the high school athletes. They did that with Green, and it paid off.”

Report: 7'2" Center Kai Sotto from Philippines to Sign NBA G League Contract
ROB GOLDBERG
MAY 11, 2020

CHICAGO, IL - The G League will add its first international player as part of its draft prospect program with Kai Sotto signing with the organization, according to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic.

The 7'2" center from the Philippines will join the new G League team in Southern California, per Charania, playing alongside other top prospects from the 2020 class, including Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix.

Sotto, who turned 18 years old Monday, was considered a 4-star prospect and the 12th-best center in the 2020 class by 247Sports' composite rankings.

The young player moved to the United States in April of 2019 before joining The Skill Academy in Atlanta.

"There hasn't been any full-blooded Filipino that has been to the NBA and I just want to be the first one and I just want to show everyone that we can also make it," he told Bleacher Report.

Sotto continues the path of top prospects skipping college to play professionally before being eligible to enter the NBA draft.

As Jonathan Givony and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported, top prospects will receive over $500,000 as part of the one-year development program that differs from the usual G League structure.

Green—considered the No. 2 prospect in the 2021 NBA draft class by Givony—was the first to join this program in April.

Top 2020 draft prospects LaMelo Ball and R.J. Hampton spent the past year in Australia's NBL.

7'2" Prospect Kai Sotto of The Philippines To Sign NBA G League Contract
CHRIS CHAVEZ

Center Kai Sotto, a 7'2" international prospect out of the Philippines, has decided to forego college to sign a deal in the NBA G League, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Sotto turned 18 years old on Monday. He is the latest NBA prospect that has been drawn to the G League after Jalen Green and Isaiah Todd have signed with the new team launching next season in Southern California.

Sotto wants to become the first NBA player born in the Philippines. He led the Philippines to the gold medal at the 2017 SEABA Under-16 Championships.

Kai Sotto headed to G League

Kai Sotto, 7-foot-2 center from the Philippines, has decided to join the NBA G League pro program, according to The Athletic. Sotto, who turned 18 on Monday became the first international prospect to sign up for the program, joining Jalen Green, ESPN's top high school prospect, Isaiah Todd, and Daishen Nix.

Sotto played at Ateneo de Manila High School in the Philippines and had been training at Atlanta-based The Skill Factory and had been considering several NCAA Division 1 schools and European ball clubs.

Sotto is expected to join Green, Todd, and Nix on a team based in southern California not affiliated with any G League franchise.

Kai Sotto - a 7-foot-2 center from the Philippines - has decided to skip college and will be the first international draft prospect to sign a deal in the NBA G League pro program, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) May 11, 2020
The G League's development program is a reshaped NBA professional pathway program that sources say will pay elite prospects $500,000-plus and provide a one-year development program outside of the minor league's traditional team structure. In recent years, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Darius Bazley and 2020 draft prospects LaMelo Ball and RJ Hampton all considered the G League, but passed.

Sotto had powered through the Philippine junior's basketball circuit, having won a UAAP Junior's Basketball Championship and Finals MVP in 2018, and followed it up with league MVP award in 2019. Sotto represented the Philippines in the FIBA U-19 World Cup last year, where he averaged 11.7 points and 7.9 rebounds in 7 games played.

Top international prospect Kai Sotto signs with NBA G League
Official release

May 13, 2020 10:32 PM ET

NEW YORK -- NBA G League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim today announced that Kai Sotto, a top prospect from the Philippines, has signed to play in the NBA G League next season. Sotto, ranked by ESPN as the No. 4 player in Georgia in the Class of 2020, spent this past season at Atlanta-based sports development organization The Skill Factory.

The NBA G League gives top young prospects a chance to begin their professional careers while receiving mentorship and life skills training. Sotto will have the opportunity to accelerate his on-court development as he learns NBA-style basketball.

Sotto joins consensus five-star high school recruits Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix in signing to play in the NBA G League for the 2020-21 season. Details of the new team Sotto, Green, Todd and Nix will play for, which will be unaffiliated with any existing NBA G League franchise or NBA team, are forthcoming.

A 7-2 center, Sotto excelled at Ateneo de Manila High School in Quezon City, the Philippines, before playing at The Skill Factory. In February, Sotto participated in the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Global Camp during NBA All-Star 2020 in Chicago. He has represented the Philippines in several competitions, including the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup.
