It is sad to see Gilas massacred by Italy and Serbia, most of our country men point fingers to whose to blame, but if you notice in every world cup any other asian countries that are participating in the event also and always end up at the bottom of the standing and never even reach the 2nd round, which means that Asian teams cannot really compete against the European and American teams in every FIBA world cup which leaves these teams as "salingpusa". For me each team must be leveled up to improved competitiveness among teams.

As a matter of opinion I believe that the naturalization rule in FIBA for a team should be changed to 2 players instead of 1, if you have one naturalized player this is still not enough to compete against Europeans and American team.

As you notice even in FIBA-Asia Group its hard to defeat Australia because they have taller and quicker players.

What is really the point of participating in a competition where the winners are almost obvious right from the start?

Express your opinion now!

I think they should eliminate the limits/naturalized restrictions altogether. And they should allow any country to choose how many foreign players they want on their teams.

It could be an option, but I think this is not doable because you could end up an all naturalized team which does not have any sense of nationalistic value, maybe it can be extend to 3 or 4 naturalized players at the most.

Actually I was saying teams should be allowed unlimited foreign players. FIBA's not allowing Clarkson to play is a joke because of their stupid citizenship rules, it's not fair. They ruled him out, they are just gaming the system for weaker basketball countries. They should abolish citizenship requirements and make it easier for any country to hire any player they want.

no need to change any rules

dahil meron ng FIBA competition that allows up to two "imports"

FIBA Asia Champion's Cup

dalawa import ng Meralco si Durham at si Sakal Balkman

--> Balkman, Durham to reinforce Meralco for FIBA Asia Champions Cup :bounce1:

Yes, to balance the playing field.

If we are to change the rule, that HAGOP rule should be the first to go...

As long as the mixed race player can prove his lineage, he must be allowed to play even if his passport was issued after turning 16 years old...

You pretty much acknowledge Filipinos can't win in the sport of basketball and have to resort to relying on foreigners to have any chance. So pathetic and sad. Nasaan ang puso mo?! The rules Fiba is fair everyone abides by the same rules. I don't see the problem.

Hindi lang naman Philippines ang walang laban sa world cup, actually all asian countries participating are no match to European and Americans team, kahit anung gawin ng mga team sa asia lets accept the fact that we are physically weaker against those people, kanya to even up the playing field a little bit dapat lang na they have to losen up the rules, allowing 2 naturalized playes is a good compromise, para gumanda naman ang laban, aabot k nga sa world cup katawatawa naman performance mo, wag nalang sumali sayang lang pagod at gastos. Allowing 2 naturalized players is not a bad idea.

Its not just for Gilas, its for all of Asia, the competitiveness among teams is obviously not balanced between Asian teams and other teams in Europe and America. It does not make sense to compete in a competition where you have no chance of winning, is'nt it?

Post subject:  Re: Its time to changed the FIBA rules!

why do nations compete in the FIBA WC anyway ?

for prestige ? for bragging rights ? to show the world they can hang with the best hoops teams ?

let's say FIBA, for whatever reason, allows 2 naturalized players, maybe even unlimited naturalized players.... how does this affect the WC ?

ginawa na dati ng Qatar yan sa FIBA Asia...built an NT made of mostly African/non-Qatari players and instantly became Asian contenders

what if Qatar or UAE with its vast wealth lures the NBA's top 30-ish guys and wins the WC bronze finishing ahead of perennial heavies like Spain, Australia et al ? does UAE even have a pro hoops league ? and they win the WC bronze...

what kind of convoluted interpretation of "levelling the playing field" do we take from all these ? if anything, this reasoning of allowing more naturalized players takes the existing playing field to an abnormally "rigged" playing field, one that would pander to "moneyed" federations instead of actually promoting healthy hoops development among member nations :?
