GINEBRA NA !!!!

Seigle, Mamaril trade blows in tune-up game
By Nelson Beltran
Friday, October 5, 2007
Magnolia’s Danny Seigle and Barangay Ginebra’s Billy Mamaril engaged in a fight during their teams’ tune-up game won by the Kings at the Green Meadows gym Wednesday.

Seigle and Mamaril figured in a shoving match then traded punches in a fight triggered by a strong collision in the first half of the contest.

But after being temporarily pulled out, the two players cooled down, patched things up and returned to finish the game where the Kings beat the Beverage Masters (formerly San Miguel Beermen) by three.

“You see Billy plays with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. He accidentally hit Danny in one play and it sparked the fight. But after a while, both cooled down,” said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico.

The Kings dominated the game and fended off the Beverage Masters’ endgame rally though playing minus injured stars Mark Caguioa and Rafi Reavis.

“We poured everything while they’re a bit lax,” said Uichico downplaying the result of the contest.

Magnolia is the consensus top favorite and the Ginebras among the dark horses in the 33rd PBA season kicking off Oct. 14 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Magnolia Beverage Masters are up against the Air21 Express on opening day.

Meanwhile, all the players gathered at the Erwin Theater in Ateneo yesterday for a seminar/briefing called by league board chairman Tony Chua and officer-in-charge Sonny Barrios.

Businessman-sportsman Robert Cuan was among the speakers, giving the players tips on how to manage their finances.

Seigle fined

By: Zean Macamay

THE Philippine Basketball Association yesterday slapped Danny Seigle with a P10,000 fine for punching Ginebra San Miguel’s Billy Mamaril at least three times during a practice game Wednesday last week at the Green Meadows Gym.

Sonny Barrios, the league’s officer-in-charge, said that the penalty could have been much bigger and with added game suspension for the Magnolia forward if the incident happened during a regular game.

“Since that infraction occurred during a practice game and not sanctioned by the league, we shall not apply the usual rules,” Barrios said.

This is the first time that the prolific national team player has been involved in a fight. What made things more puzzling, though, was that the incident exploded without any provocation from Mamaril.

The tune-up game between the Gin Kings and the Beverage Masters was witnessed by no less than PBA technical committee head Perry Martinez, who attended the game to inform both ball clubs of the league’s new rules.

What Martinez saw was the last thing he expected between two sister teams.
The game was taped by both teams, and the PBA requested a copy for review. After watching the tape, officials concluded that there were a series of hard positioning for rebounds and loose balls and the excessive use of elbows.

It was during this moment that Seigle lost his temper, suddenly charging at Mamaril and throwing at least three punches that stunned the Ginebra forward, who was unable to retaliate.

“If not for the intervention of cooler heads and the inability of Mamaril to respond to Seigle’s punches, the incident would have gotten worse,” Barrios said.

Mamaril was not fined

Seigle, who missed the entire Fiesta Cup last season as part of the national team that competed in the FIBA-Asia Qualifying tournament in Japan, will debut on Sunday when the PBA’s 33rd season kicks off.

Magnolia, formerly San Miguel Beer, will take on the Air21 Express at 6:30 p.m. after a two-hour long opening ceremony. Wally and Jose of noontime show Eat Bulaga will provide the entertainment while Bro. Mike Velarde will give the invocation. Kyla will sing the national anthem.

mabuti at practice game pa lang :D

sigurado ka jan?

sinabi Seigle sa fansite nya na "not one of my proudest moments, but it had to be done..."
sa madaling salita eh sumobra na sa limitasyon si mamaril kaya dapat lang niyang turuan ng leksyon yung loko.

-tumama yung tatlong suntok ni seigle, and the reason why mamaril could not engange him? marami kasing nakahawak kay mamaril at di siya makabitaw para makaganti.- source: pba forumer...

nga pala, seigle is also known bilang "Mr. Niceguy" sa tingin ko eh di gagawin ni seigle yun kung 'di dahil sa kabulukan ni mamaril.
