Ray Allen posted a team-high 29 points, but the Celtics came up short at the end of regulation and overtime in a 109-104 road loss to the Eastern Conference champion Cavaliers on Tuesday. Boston was outscored 17-12 and never led in the overtime period.

Allen, who knocked down the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to beat the Bobcats on Saturday, missed a pair of go-ahead free throws with 23 seconds left in regulation with the score tied at 92. Kevin Garnett had 19 points and Paul Pierce 16 in the loss.

Garnett gave the C's a 90-87 lead off a turnaround jumper with 2:38 left in regulation. Allen's running jumper with 2:02 left in the fourth quarter gave Boston its final lead of the game.

Here's an interesting tidbit (from espn's Daily Dime):

"There have been 19 teams in NBA history with three players who scored 20 or more
points per game (minimum 40 games each player). None of those 19 teams won the NBA
title.

Paul Pierce (21.7), Kevin Garnett (20.8) and Ray Allen (20.3) make up the only NBA trio
currently averaging more than 20 points per game. "

After splitting a two-game road swing, the Celtics return home to the Garden to host the New York Knicks tonight, looking to start another winning streak.

The Celtics spent Wednesday getting their rest after losing in overtime to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The loss dropped the Celtics down to 11-2, but they still have the best winning percentage (.846) in the Association. The Celtics are 7-0 at home and 3-0 in the Atlantic Division. The Celtics and Knicks did meet twice in the preseason, splitting a pair of games. The Celtics trounced the Knicks by 40 points in Boston on October 17, but New York came back the following week and beat Boston at MSG, 94-87.
