Bongbong signed wrong document – Robredo lawyer

Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed the wrong document to withdraw all motions filed with the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) for the ballot recount, the legal counsel of Vice President Leni Robredo said on Wednesday.

In a press conference, lawyer Romulo Macalintal said that contrary to Marcos’ challenge to sign a “joint motion,” the latter instead signed a “joint manifestation.” The joint manifestation would mean nothing to the PET, he stressed.

“The court cannot take action on this (joint manifestation). What the court will do is that it will take note of the manifestation,” Macalintal explained.

“This is contrary to what he has been claiming and asking that we should file a joint motion, kasi a motion is a pleading where you ask relief from the Supreme Court or from the court, and you ask the court that that relief or remedy be granted,” he said.

Macalintal then cited a Supreme Court (SC) decision in April 2005 which states that “Manifestations are usually made merely for the information of the court.”

“Iyan lang ang sinasabi ng ating jurisprudence, so Mr. Marcos presented before us a wrong document—a wrong document apparently to escape from his vaunted claim or challenge that he would be filing a joint motion to withdraw our all and any pending motions before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal,” Macalintal stressed.

Marcos announced on Tuesday that he had signed a joint manifestation to withdraw all motions filed with the PET in a bid to finally start the ballot recount.

“I’ve done everything possible to speed up this election protest,” Marcos said in a statement. “At this point, the only thing left is for Mrs. Robredo to sign the document. We are waiting.”

Marcos a ‘no-show’ in own challenge vs Robredo
By: Julius N. Leonen - @inquirerdotnet INQUIRER.net / 06:07 PM February 07, 2018

The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday blasted former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., the defeated 2016 presidential candidate, for being a “no-show” at his own challenge to sign a joint legal document.
Lawyer Romulo Macalintal, counsel for Robredo, said in a press conference that Marcos was only bluffing when his camp dared Robredo to “sign a joint motion withdrawing all our outstanding motions so we could go straight to the recount.”

“He’s escaping from the challenge that he had been hurling before the media. For about a week, iyon ang palaging sinasabi nila [that was what they were always saying]: “We challenge the camp of Ms. Robredo to come up with a joint motion,” Macalintal said in a press conference on Wednesday.

“Eh noong in-accept namin iyong challenge, bigla siyang kumawala. Ngayon alam ninyo na,” he said.

(But when we accepted the challenge, he started skirting it. Now you already know)

Marcos’ camp, through lawyer Victor Rodriguez, issued a statement on Sunday, Feb. 4, daring Robredo to sign the document.

The Robredo camp issued an advisory on Tuesday, Feb. 6, announcing that they would wait for Marcos on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Shakey’s Pizza on Roxas Boulevard in Malate, Manila.

However, Marcos nor his legal counsel appeared at the restaurant.

“They knew na dito kami magkikita. Alam nila dito kami magkikita. I texted his lawyer: ‘Pare, puwede tayong mag-usap?’ Pero Mr. Marcos is a no-show dito. Hindi siya nagpakita,” Macalintal said.
(They knew we will be meeting here. I texted his lawyer and told him ‘can we talk?’ He did not show up.)

“Bakit hindi ka magkakakita eh ikaw ang naghahamon? Kung ikaw ang naghahamon, ang isang tunay na maginoo ay dapat tinutupad ang kaniyang pangako,” he said.

(How come we did not meet since he was the one who issued the challenge? If you issued the challenge, the real gentleman is to be true to your promise.

Akala mo matapang, duwag pala: Adaza says Digong once chickened out of gun duel he himself initiated
Last updated May 6, 2016

For all his tough talk of killing criminals and unafraid of authorities, former immigration commissioner and lawmaker Homobono Adaza said that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was just a coward who could not move around his turf without a platoon of bodyguards.

“He is the bravest boy-man in town with the longest tail,” said Adaza in his Manila Times column.

Adaza cited the incident between Duterte and broadcaster Waldy Carbonnell who flew to Davao as part of the National Press Club (NPC) team seeking to probe the killing of broadcaster Jun Pala ( a leader of the anti-communist group Alsa Masa) in 2003.

“Duterte was so pissed off that he challenged Waldy to a duel near the Davao City Hall at 9 o’clock in the morning, to bring two magazines for his pistol and with Duterte having only two bullets,” said Adaza.

“Waldy, who has braved all sorts of dangers throughout his whole life, was on time at 9 o’clock in the morning as directed by Duterte. Fifteen minutes passed and not even the shadow of Duterte appeared. Waldy, together with members of Davao City media, waited for another 15 minutes, still not even the shadow appeared. So Waldy left with media members while the bravest boy-man Duterte had turned tails,” said Adaza.

This is why Adaza thinks that Duterte warning to abolish Congress was just an empty threat.

“He (Duterte) will not reach square two before he gets thrown out of the Palace. Congress is not the City Council of Davao City – in size and composition,” said Adaza.

parang ito lang.
