Solons want P1B budget for VP Robredo's office next year
Published October 14, 2020 2:19pm
By ERWIN COLCOL, GMA News
GMA Delawan Propaganda Broadcaster wrote:
Lawmakers from the House of Representatives on Wednesday proposed to increase the budget of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) for 2021 to at least P1 billion so that it could continue implementing its programs helping people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the plenary deliberations on the proposed 2021 budget of the OVP, Camarines Sur Representative Gabriel Bordado pointed out that although the office originally proposed an allocation of P723 million, it was only recommended P679 million.

This, despite having the highest audit rating from the Commission on Audit for two consecutive years, and coming up with projects aimed at "engaging citizens in nation building, promoting the principles of democracy and empowering communities in the fight against poverty," he added.

"So I am requesting the leadership of the House to do something not only to restore the budget of the OVP, we should increase the budget of the Office of the Vice President to at least P1 billion so that it can continue implementing all its programs and projects whose objective is to uplift the lives of the marginalized Filipinos," Bordado said.

Cagayan De Oro City Representative Rufus Rodriguez supported Bordado's request, pointing that a budget increase for the OVP would boost its programs for livelihood, the marginalized sector, and for frontliners amid the fight against COVID-19.

"With that, I would join and second the motion to increase the budget to at least P1 billion for the honorable Vice President," he said.

Vice President Leni Robredo herself was present in the House plenary while the budget for her office was being deliberated.

Northern Samar Representative Paul Daza sponsored the budget of the OVP.

The House has terminated the plenary budget deliberations of the office after the interpellation of lawmakers.

Back in the OVP budget briefing last meeting, Robredo welcomed the suggestion of lawmakers to increase the allocation for her office.

"We will be very much honored if our budget will be increased. As I've said, we have been so used to making do with what we have but an increased budget will allow us to do more things with the little that will be given to us. So it is very, very much appreciated," she said.—AOL, GMA News

‘Choose compassion, empathy:’ Robredo on death of detainee-mom’s baby
By: Consuelo Marquez - Reporter / @ConsINQINQUIRER.net / 11:30 AM October 13, 2020

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday asked the court to “choose compassion and empathy” after political detainee Reina Mae Nasino’s three-month-old baby River recently died of acute respiratory distress syndrome.

“With Baby River’s passing, we support the calls for the temporary release of Reina Mae so that she can be with her family and loved ones during this difficult time. This is the least we could do for a mother who lost her daughter too soon and under these painful circumstances,” Robredo said in a statement as the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 47 granted three-day furlough this Tuesday to allow Nasino to attend the funeral of her child.

“As Filipinos, as human beings, we know how intimate and important the relationship between a mother and child is—from the first embrace up until the last breath. I hope we respect and uphold this relationship. We urge the court to choose compassion and empathy,” the vice president added.

Meanwhile, Robredo expressed sympathy to the Nasino family as family members still grieve for the death of baby River, who passed away on Oct. 9 at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila.

“I offer my deepest condolences to the Nasino family during these difficult times. May Baby River’s soul rests in peace,” she said.

Nasino was included in the arrest of activists during a November 2019 raid at the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan’s office in Manila. She was a month pregnant with River during the raid.

The raid was conducted after the law enforcers served a search warrant issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 89. Lawmen reportedly found explosives inside the office which Nasino said were planted evidence.

nasira buhay niya dahil lang sa pagiging kabilang sa propaganda machinery ng kung sino sinong elites ng Pilipinas at kakuntsabang foreign govt intelligence agency..

and to further rub salt to her wounds, umentra pa si aling Leni para gamitin ang kanyang unfortunate situation to score points for herself (Leni)......the irony is that they are most likely propped up by the same elitist circle and foreign govt
