P160,000 worth of ‘shabu’ seized in 2 drug busts
Monday, December 11, 2017 By GLAZYL Y. MASCULINO AN ESTIMATED

P160,000 worth of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) was seized by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Western Visayas in separate drug busts in Bacolod City on Saturday.

The first operation was conducted at Purok Sigay, Barangay 7 around 11:30 a.m. that led to the arrest of Paul Lachica.

Also arrested were Joel Salazar, Roberto Duarez, Ryan Barredo, and Nelita Protacio, who were caught holding pot session inside Lachica's house.

Operatives recovered 13 sachets of illegal drugs weighing 25 grams, amounting to P125,000, six lighters, tooter, several empty plastic sachets, and P1,620 cash.

Drug charges will be filed Monday, December 11, against the five suspects who are detained at Police Station 2.

Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias Jr., head of Police Station 2, said Lachica was also the subject of their previous operations.

In the afternoon, PDEA also arrested Kristine Faith Derla and Jonard Urbano, both residents of Abada-Escay in Barangay Vista Alegre, in a drug bust at 2 p.m.

Both yielded seven sachets of suspected shabu weighing five grams with an estimated market value of P35,000 and drug paraphernalia.

Senior Inspector Ramel Sarona, head of Police Station 7, said both suspects are under the station’s drugs watchlist.

Personnel of Police Station 4 arrested Myko Devino, brothers Jan Robert and Rafael Poblador, and Ace Martinez at The Market Place in Barangay Villamonte around 9 p.m. on the same day, after they yielded a tooter, a sachet of suspected marijuana, and a plastic container containing suspected marijuana.

SC justice asks: How many Chinese drug lords killed in legit police ops?
By: Tetch Torres-Tupas - Reporter / @T2TupasINQINQUIRER.net / 03:25 PM December 05, 2017

Government lawyers on Tuesday scrambled for answer when a Supreme Court associate justice asked how many of the 3,806 killed in legitimate police operations were Chinese drug lords.

Solicitor General Jose Calida, who is defending the government’s war on drugs, admitted that only 419 Chinese nationals were arrested, not killed.

“At what level are they? Users? Pushers? Chemists or drug lords,” Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio asked, to which Calida said, “They are a mixture. We do not know the exact role that they played.” /je

But Trillanes earlier questioned why before leaving the meeting, Aguirre would tell Argosino: “Ikaw na bahala (It’s up to you).”

After the Shangri-La meeting, Argosino, along with former BI Associate Commissioner Michael Robles, met again with Sombero at the City of Dreams in the evening of November 26 until past 5:00 a.m. the following day.

But Aguirre said the phrase “ikaw na bahala” was “understood and appreciated by Trillanes with malice.”

PDEA seizes P57.5M worth of shabu at FedEx branch
A drug suspect based in California sends 11.5 kilograms of alleged shabu into the country, declaring them as 'toys'

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) presented to the media on Monday, December 11, around 11.5 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or "shabu" at their national headquarters in Quezon City.

PDEA chief Director General Aaron Aquino said the packs of illegal drugs – laid out before him during the press conference – were seized in two separate operations on the same FedEx delivery service branch in Pasay City.

According to Aquino, the packages were flagged down by one of their K9 units while conducting random searches. The deliveries supposedly passed through FedEx's x-ray screening process without a problem.

The first haul on November 29 yielded 6 kg of shabu worth P30 million, and the second on December 4 yielded 5.5 kg worth P27.5 million.

The illegal packages, Aquino said, came from the same suspect: American national Tyler Wilson of Culver City, California.

They were shipped into the Philippines declared as "toys," Aquino said, adding that Wilson was taking advantage of the Christmas season, when delivery services are overwhelmed with packages.

"These illegal drugs or illegal drug group are taking advantage of the Christmas season. It happens, but they are taking advantage of it. And we expect that there are more illegal drugs shipments to come using courier delivery services and shipping services," Aquino said.

The first delivery was set to be received by Rogelio Almodiel of Taguig, and the second by Hasmine Erquiza of Quezon City.
When they were visited by the PDEA at their homes, they were nowhere to be found.

When captured, Aquino said, they will be charged with violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act 9165) for illegal importation of illegal drugs.

Aquino said they will coordinate with the courier delivery companies like FedEx to craft rules to prevent more contraband packages sneaking into the country. – Rappler.com

2 NBP guards yield P2.9-M shabu
BY NELSON BADILLA, TMT ON DECEMBER 12, 2017

Two guards of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) arrested in a buy bust operation yielded P2.9 million worth of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said on Monday.

PDEA chief Aaron Aquino said Randy Gatdula, and Marita Macatanga, considered “high-value” targets, were captured on Saturday in a mall in Pasay City.

The two are assigned at the maximum security building of the NBP.

The NBP has recently been painted as one of the sources of illegal drugs after Sen. Leila de Lima and other government officials and individuals were accused of being involved in the drug trade inside the national penitentiary.

De Lima is detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center on drug-related charges.

Aquino said Gatdula and Macatanga were arrested by PDEA operatives at the Mall of Asia. Based on intelligence reports, the two are suppliers of shabu in Metro Manila.

Drug charges will be filed against them.

Ranking officials of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) allegedly received bribe money to process shipments that the agency receives, private broker Mark Taguba revealed on Monday.

During the congressional inquiry on the biggest drug shipment under the Duterte administration on Monday, Capiz Rep. Fredenil Castro asked Taguba to identify who among the BOC officials are receiving payoffs.

Taguba then walked and stood behind the officials present at the hearing whom he implicated to corruption.

Among these officials were:

Manila International Container Port (MCIP) district collector Vincent Philip Maronilla

“I will make your life very, very easy and comfortable. For the drug lords, I will make your life miserable. If you would continue on trafficking drugs, you better start praying,” Dela Rosa told the inmates in his first visit to the national penitentiary since President Rodrigo Duterte announced his intention to appoint him as head of the BuCor.
