Ex-Maguindanao mayor, brother killed in shootouts with narc agents
By: Mart Sambalud - @inquirerdotnet Inquirer Mindanao / 09:48 AM January 04, 2019

DAVAO CITY, Philippines—A former mayor of Parang, Maguindanao and his brother were killed in separate alleged shootouts with anti-narcotics agents early dawn Friday in Cotabato City, an official said.

Juvenal Azurin director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority (PDEA) Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) said former Parang town mayor Talib Abo Sr. and his brother Bobby Abo were killed in separate shootouts when anti-narcotics agents and police forces tried to serve nine search warrants at their respective houses in Barangay Rosary Heights 7, Rosary Heights 6 and Bagua Mother in Cotabato City.

Authorities said Abo and his brother were killed in the brief exchange of gunfire which were triggered after they allegedly resisted arrest.

Recovered from Abo’s house were high-powered firearms, illegal drugs, grenades, and ammunition. /muf

Former inmate busted for P2-M shabu in Cebu
BY RHEA RUTH ROSELL

JANUARY 04, 2019

More than a week after his release from jail, Ivan Matig-a, 25, went back to selling illegal drugs.

Chief Insp. Randy Caballes, chief of the Cebu City Police Station 11, said Matig-a, who yielded more than P2 million worth of suspected shabu was arrested by police after he sold a medium pack of the suspected banned substance for P12,000 to a poseur buyer in Sitio Tugas, Barangay Mambaling, in Cebu City, Cebu, at past 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police seized five medium packs and 11 large packs of the suspected shabu from Matig-a. Police said the seized shabu has an estimated street value of P2,074,000.

Caballes told The Manila Times that Matig-a, of Barangay Mambaling, was arrested for possession of illegal drugs last August 2017 and was released from the Cebu City Jail last December 13, 2018 after plea bargaining.

He said they are tracking Matig-a’s illegal-drugs supplier. Matig-a did not resist arrest. He will face charges under the Republic Act 9165 or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. “

Metro Manila crimes dip in 2018 due to drug war: police
ABS-CBN News
Posted at Jan 02 2019 03:11 PM

MANILA -- The number of crimes recorded in Metro Manila fell in 2018 compared to the previous year, the capital's police commander said Wednesday, as he attributed to the decline to the ongoing war on drugs.

There were 14,633 crime incidents in 2018, down 21 percent from 18,524 in 2017, said Director Guillermo Eleazar, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office.

Murders were reduced by 52 percent, crimes against persons went down by 27 percent, while crimes against property dropped by 17 percent, he said.
