Loot back at work
January 4, 2019

DAANBANTAYAN Mayor Vicente Loot returned to the Municipal Hall on Friday, Jan. 4, after being absent from public view for almost eight months.

Vice Mayor Gilbert Arrabis made the confirmation to SunStar Cebu.

With Loot back in office, Arrabis also returned to the Municipal Council as its presiding chairman.

Loot reportedly sent formal communication to Arrabis and Gov. Hilario Davide III regarding his return.

On the town’s official Facebook (FB) page, Loot was seen meeting with department heads and local elected officials.

On his personal FB page, Loot said he returned to office because he cared for his constituents.

“Kay ang gugma ko alang kaninyo. Sa akong pagbalik padayon ta sa pagkab-ot sa atong mga damgo. Gugma ko, gugma ninyo, inubanan sa inyong kinasingkasing ug hugot nga suporta—kalampusan nato (I have a love for you. With my return, let’s continue to reach for our dreams. My love, your love, together with your heartfelt support—to our success)!” Loot posted on his FB page.

Since last May, the retired police general had disappeared from the public eye after President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to kill him over allegations that he is a drug protector.

Just before the May 2018 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, Loot and his family were ambushed by unidentified assailants while disembarking from a docked boat in Barangay Maya.

Despite his absence, Loot had assured his constituents that his work as the town’s highest official remained normal despite his admission that he was hiding for security reasons.

Last November, Loot filed a request for a month-long vacation leave before Governor Davide to travel to the US and Canada to visit his elder sisters. He then sought permission to extend his vacation so he could spend Christmas and the New Year with his family there. JKV

BACOLOD
Brothers nabbed for P420,000 in ‘shabu’

GLAZYL Y. MASCULINO
January 5, 2019

AN ESTIMATED P420,000 worth of suspected drugs was recovered while two brothers were arrested in a drug bust at Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City Friday, January 4.

Inspector Adrian James Albaytar, assistant team leader of City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), identified the target subject as Rogelio Villanueva, 28.

His older brother, Ricky, was also arrested in the operation after he allegedly conspired with the suspect in the illegal drug trade.

Police seized from them 13 sachets of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride), the P1,000 marked money, eight live ammunition of .45 caliber pistol, and three live ammunition of a homemade shotgun.

Rogelio also allegedly yielded a .45 caliber pistol and a grenade while police recovered from Ricky a homemade shotgun.

Both suspects are under the drugs watchlist of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

Albaytar said the suspects alleged they get their supply from a known drug group in the city, but it is still subject for validation.

Both suspects will be facing charges for sale and illegal possession of dangerous drugs, and illegal possession of firearms.

Rogelio will be facing additional charges for illegal possession of explosives.

The two suspects are detained at Police Station 7.

SCR bust: Former Jaguar aide nabbed with shabu worth P170K
By Benjie Talisic|January 06,2019 - 12:28 AM

CEBU CITY, Philippines — A former trusted aide of slain drug lord Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz was arrested after he was caught with P170,000 worth of suspected shabu outside a parking lot at the South Coastal Road in the South Road Properties.

Jimbo Cabusas of Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, was also caught with a .45 caliber pistol in his possession during the buy-bust operation on January 5, said Chief Inspector Chuck Barandog, Cebu City Police Office Drug Enforcement Unit (CCPO DEU) chief.

Barandog said that the anti-illegal drug operation was conducted by the CCPO DEU.

He said that they had been monitoring the illegal drug activities of Cabusas for quite a while.

He also said that they found out that Cabusas was allegedly tasked by “Jaguar” to build his house in Barangay Duljo Fatima, and he was allegedly later discovered to have also sold illegal drugs.

Aside from the drugs and handgun taken from Cabusas during the January 5 operation, Barandog said that they also recovered identification cards (IDs) of the suspect, showing he was an employee of a local TV station.

Cabusas told Cebu Daily News Digital in an interview that he was only a talent of the TV station and not a regular employee.

He also admitted having been tasked to build the house of “Jaguar” in Barangay Duljo Fatima, but after Jaguar died, he claimed to have left and invested in an eatery in Talisay City./dbs

By: Christia Marie Ramos - Reporter / @CMRamosINQ INQUIRER.net / 05:15 PM January 06, 2019

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities arrested three drug suspects early Sunday in a buy-bust operation in Quezon City and seized from them P408,000 worth of illegal drugs, as well as unlicensed guns.

Initial reports by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) stated that authorities from the Novaliches Police Station caught suspects Conrado Gonzales, 52, a resident of Caloocan City; Bernard Bailey, 41, from Manila; and Arlene Puno, 43, a resident of Pasig City at about 12:30 a.m. in front of the Sta. Monica Cockpit Arena along Sarmiento St., Brgy. Sta. Monica, Novaliches.

Six sachets of shabu weighing approximately 60 grams with estimated street value of P408,000, two ziplock bags of dried marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a caliber .45 pistol, one magazine with six live ammunition, one snub nose caliber .38 revolver with five live ammunition, a white Honda Civic, a cellphone, and cash in different denominations were confiscated from the arrested suspects.

Further investigation by authorities showed that Gonzales was the main drug supplier in the area and has two previous cases for illegal drugs.

He was convicted in 1994 and served his sentence for 12 years. In 2011, he was again arrested in Pasay City for selling illegal drugs which then he was acquitted.

Meanwhile, Bailey was convicted for murder in 1997 and served his sentence.

He was also arrested for violation of RA 9165, RA 10591, and RA 8294 but was acquitted.

Puno was included in the Pasay City drug watchlist, authorities added. /je

ZAMBOANGA
2 caught, P3-M ‘shabu’ seized in downtown drug bust

BONG GARCIA
January 7, 2019

TWO suspected big time drug personalities were arrested while some P3 million worth of illegal drugs were seized in a drug bust in downtown Zamboanga City, Monday afternoon.

Lawyer Jackelyn De Guzman, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency regional director, said Majannang Ahadani, 51, and her son, Junjun Barlie, were arrested shortly after 1 p.m. Monday along Rajah Soliman Street in Barangay Zone IV.

They were arrested after they sold some P900,000 worth of suspected shabu to an undercover agent.

Seized from them were some 500 grams of suspected shabu packed in 10 medium-size plastic sachets with an estimated market value of P3 million, P900,000 marked “boodle money,” and illegal drug paraphernalia.

De Guzman said they knew the suspects were in the illegal drug trade based on information from “concerned citizens.”

“We did an information build-up until such time we managed to gather full information about their operation (on illegal drug trade),” she added.

De Guzman believes the suspects had long been involved in the narcotics trade since they can immediately provide large amount of suspected shabu.

She further said the suspects already have regular buyers in the city since they even transact in the downtown area. (SunStar Philippines)

P3.4-M ‘shabu’ seized in Cavite buy-bust
By: Maricar Cinco - Correspondent / @maricarcincoINQ Inquirer Southern Luzon / 12:29 PM January 07, 2019

SAN PEDRO CITY, Philippines – Anti-narcotics agents on Monday said they seized about P3.4 million in suspected “shabu” from two suspected pushers in an operation in Cavite province.

A report from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) named the arrested suspects as Salik Sultan, 43, and Diane Datumanong, 51.

In a phone interview Monday, Adrian Alvariño, PDEA director in CALABARZON, said the suspects were alleged members of a Mindanao-based syndicate responsible for the illegal drug supply brought to Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

PDEA agents from CALABARZON and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao carried out the buy-bust on January 4 in a mall parking lot in Dasmariñas City.

The agents confiscated five plastic bags that contained the alleged drugs with a combined weight of around 500 grams.

Alvariño declined to disclose the suspects’ source of the drugs while an investigation was ongoing. /cbb
