Man with Cebu City ECQ pass, packs of marijuana leaves nabbed in police checkpoint
By: Immae Lachica - General Assignments Reporter/CDN Digital|April 01,2020 - 05:16 PM

CEBU CITY, Philippines–A man, who was trying to sneak three packs of dried marijuana leaves into Talisay City, was arrested in a police checkpoint in Sitio Laray in Barangay San Roque shortly before noontime today, April 1, 2020.

Police recovered the dried marijuana leaves worth P12, 500 and a green quarantine pass that was issued by the Cebu City government from the backpack of Mark Campo, 19.

Campo is a native of Alegria town but is renting a place in Barangay Poblacion in Talisay City.

Patrolman Maximo Petalcorin of the Talisay City Police Station said that Campo was traveling from Cebu City on board a bicycle on his way to Talisay City. But when policemen, who were manning the checkpoint at the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) called him for an inspection, Campo made a sudden u-turn which prompted the police to give chase.

During their inspection, policemen found the marijuana packs weighing a total of 125 grams and the green quarantine pass inside his bag.

Campo told the police that he borrowed the pass from a friend so he can travel to Cebu City.

“As of now he is in the station and padayon pami sa pag imbestiga ani niya,” said Petalcorin.

(He (Campo) is now detained at the police station and we are still conducting further investigation on him.) /dcb

Former MBA star Maui Huelar gunned down
JONAS N. PANERIO
April 16, 2020

FORMER Negros Slashers star Manuel “Maui” Huelar was shot and killed on Thursday afternoon in Barangay Villamonte in Bacolod City on Thursday afternoon, April 16, 2020.

Huelar was popular amongst Cebuano basketball fans as he was one of the leaders of those Slashers squads that fiercely battled against the Cebu Gems in the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA). During that time, he teamed up with former MBA MVP John Ferriols, Johndel Cardel and current Meralco Bolts big man Reynel Hugnatan to capture the 1998 Southern Division title but lost to the Pampanga Dragons in the National Finals.

He also played for Hapee Toothpaste of Cebuano businessman, Jack Huang.

Huelar also played with Ferriols and former Cebu Gems big man Leode Garcia for the University of San Jose-Recoletos, winning the Cebu Amateur Athletic Association (CAAA) collegiate basketball title over a University of the Visayas squad that was led by Tata Fernandez and former PBA guard Lowell Briones. He was also named the Most Valuable Player that season.

Huelar was allegedly shot by two unknown assailants who immediately fled the scene.

Huelar was also the former barangay captain of Barangay 35 in Bacolod City. However, as successful as he was during his basketball career, his time after it was marred by controversies. He was arrested in a buy-bust operation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in 2016. The next year, his name was included in drug trade allegations made by Negros fourth district representative Juliet Ferrer and her husband Jeffrey Ferrer.

However, he was released in 2018 after a plea bargain.

PDEA busts chemist, accomplice; seizes over P3.4-M ‘shabu’ in Laguna
By: Consuelo Marquez - Reporter / @CMarquezINQINQUIRER.net / 06:03 PM June 03, 2020

MANILA, Philippines — Anti-narcotics operatives arrested a chemist and his accomplice while more than P3.4 million worth of suspected crystal meth or “shabu” was confiscated during a buy-bust operation in Sta. Rosa City in Laguna province on Wednesday.

A report from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) identified the suspect as Yusuf Sultan alias Samson Tan and Dexter Abdala.

In a radio interview, PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva said PDEA agents launched a three-month-long intelligence operation against Tan, allegedly a chemist making crystal meth.

“This is a 3-month intelligence operation apparently si Samson Tan, chemist ito (Apparently this Samson Tan is a chemist). Gumagawa ng shabu na nahuli ng Manila Police District (MPD) sometime in 2008 (He is creating shabu and arrested by MPD sometime in 2008),” Villanueva said over dzBB.

The bust was hatched at a parking lot in Barangay Don Jose at 9 a.m. The two suspects were arrested after Tan sold the illegal drug to an undercover anti-narcotics agent.

Authorities said the suspects are now detained at the PDEA office in Calabarzon while charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Couple nabbed, P136-K shabu seized in Cotabato drug sting
By Noel Punzalan June 4, 2020, 7:55 pm

COTABATO CITY – Anti-narcotics agents arrested a couple here and seized some PHP136,000 worth of suspected shabu on Wednesday night.

Juvenal Azurin, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Muslim Mindanao, identified the arrested couple as Patrick Saavedra and his wife, Monambai, both residents of this city.

"The couple was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Poblacion 2,” Azurin said.

Seized from the couple were some 20 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP136,000, mobile phones, and the counterfeit bundles of money with two original PHP1,000 bills on top as bait.

The couple is now detained at the PDEA-BARMM headquarters here while charges for violation of R.A. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) are being prepared against them.

Meanwhile, police in Lanao del Sur also arrested on the same day two big-time drug peddlers in Barangay Pindulunan of Tugaya town.

Colonel Madzgani Mukaram, Lanao del Sur police director, said the two suspects, identified as Ibra Gulam and Abubacar Dilabayan, were caught in the act by the police raiding team repacking some PHP14,000 worth of suspected shabu. (PNA)

Over ₱5.1B worth of shabu seized in Bulacan
By CNN Philippines Staff

Published Jun 4, 2020 8:25:01 PM

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 4) — Authorities seized over ₱5.1 billion-worth of illegal drugs in a buy-bust operation in Marilao, Bulacan on Thursday.

City and regional police found 63 boxes of shabu or crystal meth weighing 756 kilos with an estimated value of ₱5,140,800,000, a police report detailed.

The operation took place on Reley Street, Barangay Lias. Officers also arrested three suspects including one Chinese national and confiscated buy-bust boodle money worth ₱1 million.

Philippine National Police chief PGen Archie Gamboa said this is the biggest haul for the year, adding that the drugs may have been imported since there are likely no more drug laboratories in the country.

Raid on shabu maker's house nets P4.8-B illegal drugs
THIRD ANNE PERALTA-MALONZO
June 4, 2020

ANTI-drug operatives recovered an additional P4.8 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) from the house of illegal drug manufacturer Samson Tan in Biñan, Laguna Wednesday afternoon, June 3.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives searched Tan’s house several hours after Tan, who is said to be one of the biggest shabu manufacturers in the Philippines, was arrested in a drug bust in Sta. Rosa City, also in Laguna.

PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva said Wednesday that Tan was arrested along with two cohorts identified as Yusuf Sultan and Dexter Abdala.

PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon said Thursday, June 4, that they have found out that Tan and Sultan are one and the same person.

“Samson Tan assumed the false identity of Yusuf Sultan y Ali apparently to confuse authorities,” he said.

Carreon also said only two people were arrested during the drug bust in Sta. Rosa Wednesday morning.

PDEA seized about 500 grams, not kilograms as earlier reported, of shabu worth P3.4 million during the drug bust.

At 3:30 p.m. of the same day, PDEA operatives served a warrant to search Tan’s house in a subdivision in Barangay Loma in Biñan.

Recovered during this second operation were 600 grams of shabu worth P4.8 million and equipment used for the manufacturing of illegal drugs.

PDEA operatives also arrested Ansadin Kami and Dexter Saliek who were allegedly in charge of the distribution and delivery of the illegal drugs.

Tan and his cohorts will all be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002

A minor was rescued during the search on Tan’s residence.

Villanueva said they had conducted surveillance on Tan for three months.

Carreon said the PDEA had obtained a search warrant on Tan’s residence prior to the drug bust.

Tan was arrested when he personally transacted with the poseur buyer Wednesday morning.

Tan was first arrested by the Manila Police District in 2008 and transferred to the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) in 2013, after he was convicted.

He was, however, released in 2018 after the Court of Appeals overturned his conviction. (SunStar Philippines)

P5B worth of illegal drugs seized from Bulacan warehouse
Updated June 4, 2020, 8:21 PM
By Aaron Recuenco

Police anti-narcotics agents seized on Thursday (June 4) some P5 billion worth of shabu (crystal methamphetamine) when they raided a warehouse in Marilao, Bulacan, one of the biggest drug hauls in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.

Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the operation also resulted in the arrest of Chinese national Yuwen Cai and Filipinas Angela Tulio and Ma. Lyn Tulio.

The Chinese suspect, according to Gamboa, appears to be the trusted man of the drug syndicate while the two Filipinas could be associates tasked to do errands for the arrested foreigner.

Gamboa said the operation was an offshoot of a surveillance operation which the PNP Drug Enforcement Group has been conducting against a drug syndicate operating in the country.

“There was a necessity to conduct surveillance hoping that we may find something here, and it turned out positive,” Gamboa said in an interview.

He was referring to the warehouse at #2 Reley St., in Barangay Lias, Marilao City. The operation was conducted at around 3 p.m.

Seized were 63 boxes containing approximately 756 kilograms of shabu.

“With the packaging, we believe that these are importation because we believe, and even PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) believes that there are no longer big laboratories in the country,” Gamboa said.

“What we have here are kitchen-type [laboratories] which can produce approximately five to seven kilos of shabu every week. With more than 700 kilos, imagine how many weeks they can do that,” he added.

Gamboa said the packaging itself does not suggest that the substance was made in a kitchen-type laboratory. He said the packaging contains Japanese characters, which he said, could be a deviation from the actual origin of the illegal drugs.

Given the huge quantity of the illegal drugs, Gamboa said the shabu may also have been meant for distribution in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Based on the estimate, the drug haul has a street value of P5.14 billion.
