Raid on shabu maker's house nets P4.8-B illegal drugs
THIRD ANNE PERALTA-MALONZO
June 4, 2020

ANTI-drug operatives recovered an additional P4.8 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) from the house of illegal drug manufacturer Samson Tan in Biñan, Laguna Wednesday afternoon, June 3.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives searched Tan’s house several hours after Tan, who is said to be one of the biggest shabu manufacturers in the Philippines, was arrested in a drug bust in Sta. Rosa City, also in Laguna.

PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva said Wednesday that Tan was arrested along with two cohorts identified as Yusuf Sultan and Dexter Abdala.

PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon said Thursday, June 4, that they have found out that Tan and Sultan are one and the same person.

“Samson Tan assumed the false identity of Yusuf Sultan y Ali apparently to confuse authorities,” he said.

Carreon also said only two people were arrested during the drug bust in Sta. Rosa Wednesday morning.

PDEA seized about 500 grams, not kilograms as earlier reported, of shabu worth P3.4 million during the drug bust.

At 3:30 p.m. of the same day, PDEA operatives served a warrant to search Tan’s house in a subdivision in Barangay Loma in Biñan.

Recovered during this second operation were 600 grams of shabu worth P4.8 million and equipment used for the manufacturing of illegal drugs.

PDEA operatives also arrested Ansadin Kami and Dexter Saliek who were allegedly in charge of the distribution and delivery of the illegal drugs.

Tan and his cohorts will all be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002

A minor was rescued during the search on Tan’s residence.

Villanueva said they had conducted surveillance on Tan for three months.

Carreon said the PDEA had obtained a search warrant on Tan’s residence prior to the drug bust.

Tan was arrested when he personally transacted with the poseur buyer Wednesday morning.

Tan was first arrested by the Manila Police District in 2008 and transferred to the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) in 2013, after he was convicted.

He was, however, released in 2018 after the Court of Appeals overturned his conviction. (SunStar Philippines)

John Eric Mendoza
June 8, 2020

A Chinese national and his Filipino cohort were killed in a drug operation in Parañaque City that led to the confiscation of a huge cache of shabu, authorities said on Sunday.

The Southern Police District said Jing Long Cai and Danny Apig were killed in a buy-bust operation at the Uniwide Coastal Mall, Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard on Saturday.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-National Capital Region led the drug bust.

Authorities recovered 36 kilograms of the substance believed to be shabu worth P245 million, along with P2 million worth of boodle money, one Kia sedan and two .45 caliber pistols.

No casualty was reported on the government side.

Espenido: Kerwin Espinosa behind P5.6 billion shabu haul
Emmanuel Tupas (The Philippine Star ) - June 12, 2020 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines — Kerwin Espinosa was behind the P5.6-billion shabu seized in Bulacan last week, according to controversial police official Lt. Col. Jovie Espenido.

In an interview over UNTV on Wednesday night, Espenido said Angela Tulio and her sister Ma. Lyn, who were arrested along with a Chinese citizen during a raid on a house in Marilao town, were Espinosa’s people in Albuera, Leyte.

He said Espinosa, son of slain Albuera town mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., is active in the illegal drug trade even though he is under the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Espenido said Espinosa is behind illegal drug operations in Pampanga, Cavite and Bulacan and the cities of Pasay and Taguig in Metro Manila.

“Mas powerful siya ngayon kasi naka-detain na nakakalaro pa,” the police official said.

Espenido said Danny Alpiga and Ryan Labandria, who were killed in shootouts with police officers in Parañaque City and Taguig on Saturday and May 23, respectively, were Espinosa’s drug couriers.

Police said 48 kilos of shabu valued at P336.8 million were recovered in the operations.

Espenido did not reply when asked for details on his accusations against Espinosa.

Sought for comment, police Drug Enforcement Group director Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. said they are verifying Espenido’s statement.

Espenido was former police chief of Albuera. He led a bloody operation against members of Ozamiz-based Parojinog drug ring when he was the city’s police chief.

He was also among over 300 police officers investigated over their suspected links to the illegal drug trade.

The Philippine National Police has yet to give an update on its probe on Espenido and other police officers said to be on the drug watchlist.

Espenido was reassigned to Eastern Visayas. He has yet to report to his post as all officials assigned to the region must undergo quarantine as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus disease 2019.

‘Prove claims’

Meanwhile, an NBI official challenged Espenido to prove his allegations against Espinosa.

The official, who requested anonymity, said Espenido’s claims are “preposterous” and should be dismissed as hearsay unless backed by evidence.

DILG, PDEA probe

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Department of the Interior and Local Government are looking into Espenido’s allegations.

”Secretary (Eduardo) Año confirmed that this matter is being investigated by authorities,” Roque said.

”It is confidential information, but our law enforcers are not blind nor deaf over these operations,” he added. Christina Mendez, Rey Galupo

Over P8 billion drugs seized in 9 days
Neil Jayson Servallos (The Philippine Star ) - June 15, 2020 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines — Anti-narcotics agents have confiscated more than P8 billion worth of illegal drugs in a span of nine days as authorities focused on anti-crime operations after quarantine restrictions were eased in Metro Manila and other parts of the country, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa reported yesterday.

“The recovery of illegal drugs amounting to P8.395 billion in less than two weeks is unprecedented. This only proved that the PNP is relentless in the war on drugs,” Gamboa said.

He commended the Drug Enforcement Group and the Police Regional Offices for the accomplishment.

Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office seized an estimated P18.25 million worth of shabu in separate stings in the cities of Caloocan, Navotas and Marikina on June 12.

The anti-narcotics operations conducted by police in Taguig and Parañaque on May 22 and 24, respectively, resulted in the seizure of P325.6 million worth of drugs.

On June 4, a Chinese and two Filipina cohorts were apprehended in Marilao, Bulacan for alleged possession of P5.63 billion worth of shabu.

From June 12 to 13, Western Visayas police confiscated P1.22 million worth of drugs in Bacolod City. The Calabarzon police also recovered drugs amounting to P306,000 in Rizal. The Caraga police seized P300,000 worth of drugs in Butuan City.

Authorities confiscated P2.5 billion worth of shabu in Cavite. Prior to this, members of the Central Luzon police recovered shabu with an estimated street value of P1.8 million in Guiguinto, Bulacan.

“The PNP continues to be in the frontline of ensuring public safety by going after drug rings. There will be no let-up in the campaign against drugs even as we are facing the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic,” Gamboa said.
