People are realizing change isn’t coming, says solon on Duterte’s ratings drop

Emmi de Jesus - January 2014

It seems people are starting to realize change won’t be coming after all, contrary to the promise of President Rodrigo Duterte. That’s why his net satisfaction rating dropped from “very good” to “good” in a third quarter survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

That at least was the reaction of Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Emmi de Jesus, a former Duterte ally, blaming the dip in the President’s ratings on what she called “palpak moves.”

Among these wrong moves, she cited the thousands of extrajudicial killings hounding the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs, the declaration of martial law in Mindanao due to the five-month long Marawi City conflict, and the unresolved issue of P6.4-billion worth of shabu (crystal meth) smuggled in through the Bureau of Customs last May.

“People are now seeing how those moves, ‘nega’ ang impact sa majority [the impact is negative on the majority,” De Jesus sad.

“Coupled with soaring prices of practically all commodities, dami na natauhan na [more people are realizing] change is not coming,” De Jesus said. “In fact, PRRD’s more than a year government made lives of the majority/poor worse than before.”

De Jesus, a member of the Makabayan party-list bloc, broke away from administration-controlled supermajority bloc of the House of Representatives last September.

Another Makabayan bloc member, ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio, foresees Duterte’s ratings dropping even more.

“Lalo pa itong bubulusok sa pagsisikap niyang supilin ang mga imbestigasyon sa umano’y nakatagong kayamanan niya at ng kanyang pamilya; pagpapatuloy ng extrajudicial killings; at pagpapatupad ng mga kontra-mahirap na patakaran lalo na ang kanyang tax reform,” he said.

[This will plummet even more because of his attempts to repress investigations into the alleged hidden wealth that he and his family has, because of the unabated extrajudicial killings, and because of the anti-poor policies, especially his tax reform.]

Unfavorable recent weeks

In a statement, Bagong Henerasyon Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy said the developments of recent weeks had “not been been generally favorable to President Duterte.”

She said, however, that public opinion would be “quite a malleable, clay dough-like easily shaped by twists and turns in current events.”

“A few or several remedial measures here and there on the crime and peace and order front can result in recovery of those lost points,” Herrera-Dy said. “The end of the battle for Marawi is on the horizon. More Duterte points there.”

“His base of support remains solid, in my view,” she added. “The 16 million who voted for him in May 2016, I believe, are still there.”

‘Wake-up call’

Caloocan City Rep. Edgar Erice, a member of the so-called Magnificent Seven opposition bloc said: “This should be taken by the president as a wake up call. It’s time that he should also listen to his critics, especially on the issue of war on drugs.”

“It already a cause of embarrassment not only here but all over the world,” Erice added. “The war on drugs is a losing proposition it is doomed to fail as similar template had been tried by many many countries and the results were the same: failure, police brutality and impunity and the collateral damage of innocent civilians.”

President Rodrigo Duterte’s net satisfaction rating fell to “good” from June’s “very good rating,” a Social Weather Stations’ (SWS) survey revealed on Sunday.

According to the third quarter survey conducted from Sept. 23 to 27, 67 percent of adult Filipinos were satisfied with Duterte’s performance, while 14 percent were undecided, and 19 percent were dissatisfied.

Compared to June’s +66 or very good rating, the recent survey showed a net satisfaction rating of +48, classified by SWS as good.

The net trust in Duterte also declined according to the survey.

In the September survey, 73 percent of Filipinos said they had “much trust,” 15 percent undecided, and 12 percent with “little trust” in the President.

This gives a net trust rating of +60, classified by SWS as “very good,” a 15-point decline from June’s +75 “excellent.”

By area, the President’s net satisfaction rating from June to September also fell by 30 points in the Visayas, 22 points in Balance Luzon, and 19 points in Metro Manila, while it stayed steady in Mindanao.

Meanwhile, the urban net satisfaction score of the President fell by one grade from “very good” to “good,” at +48 in September, down by 20 points from June’s +68.

Duterte’s net satisfaction rating stayed “very good” in social class ABC, with +57 in September, just 2 points below June’s +59.

However, it fell from “very good” to “good” in class D, or the “masa,” from +66 in June down to +49 in September.

The survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews among 1,500 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide: 600 in Balance Luzon, and 300 each in Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao, with sampling error margins of ±2.5% for national percentages, ±4% for Balance Luzon, and ±6% each for Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao, SWS said.

DECLINE. President Rodrigo Duterte's net satisfaction rating drops by 18 points in the September 2017 survey of the Social Weather Stations. His net trust rating also declines by 15 points. Malacañang file photo

MANILA, Philippines – Opposition group Tindig Pilipinas said the steep drop in President Rodrigo Duterte's satisfaction and trust ratings is an expected development that means his "honeymoon" with Filipinos is over.

Duterte's net satisfaction rating declined by 18 points in the September 2017 survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) released on Sunday, October 8. He registered a +48 net satisfaction rating, still classified as "good" by the SWS.

The President's net trust rating also dipped by 15 points in the same survey, to a "very good" +60.

"While his government was focused on killing the poor and balkanizing our democratic institutions, his administration has miserably failed to deliver on his promises – peace in Mindanao, housing, solutions to traffic, end to endo, employment, among others," Tindig Pilipinas said in a statement on Sunday.

"Finally, the huge drop in the President's rating must serve notice to him: the people expect nothing but the truth on the allegations of corruption, ill-gotten wealth, and drug smuggling facilitation leveled against him and members of his family," the coalition added.

The Office of the Ombudsman is looking into the wealth of the Duterte family. Duterte, meanwhile, said he will set up an independent body to investigate the corruption inside the Office of the Ombudsman.

Coalition member Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano said the latest SWS survey results prove the waning support for the bloody war against drugs.

"The survey results may be indicative of the decline of support [for] the war on drugs and the strong opposition [to] the prevalent human rights violations under the Duterte administration. The results would also bear the continuous decline of Duterte's net satisfaction among Class D or the masa (poor) which are the main victims of the selective war on drugs," said Alejano, who filed an impeachment complaint against Duterte which was junked by the President's allies at the House of Representatives.

Ifugao Representative Teddy Baguilat, a member of the House opposition, urged Duterte to use his political capital "to do what is right."

"More people are starting to see through the propaganda. That no matter what it claims, the killings, the lack of action on the economic front are taking their toll on his numbers," Baguilat said.

Duterte not 'untouchable'

ACT Teachers Representative Antonio Tinio, a member of the left-leaning Makabayan bloc, also said the "myth" of Duterte's popularity is already over.

"Hindi siya untouchable. Nalantad na ang kahungkagan ng kanyang pangakong pagbabago; ang brutalidad ng kanyang mga giyera kontra droga at kontra sa mga rebelde, na bumibiktima sa maralita sa kalunsuran at kanayunan; at ang hagupit ng kanyang mga economic policies, na pumapabor sa ilang mayaman at dayuhan habang hindi nagbibigay ng trabaho at serbisyo sa maralita," said Tinio.

(He's not untouchable. The emptiness of his promise of change has already been exposed; the brutality of his war against drugs and war against rebels that victimize the urban and rural poor; the effects of his economic policies that favor the rich and the foreigners without giving jobs and services to the poor.)

Another Makabayan lawmaker, Gabriela Representative Emmi de Jesus, said Filipinos are now "seeing through" the President's "hype and fake news."

"[They] are realizing that change is not coming under President Duterte's watch, given the soaring prices of practically all commodities, nonstop extrajudicial killings, failure to end contractualization, failure to solve the Marawi crisis despite the imposition of Mindanao-wide martial law, and the unresolved Customs shabu smuggling issue," she said.

"In fact, [Duterte's] reign in the Palace for more than a year made the lives of the majority of Filipinos worse than before."

The Makabayan bloc, composed of 7 party-list representatives, broke away from the House majority last September, citing Duterte's "fascist, pro-imperialist, and anti-people policies.

For Bagong Henerasyon Representative Bernadette Herrera-Dy, a Duterte ally, the ratings "can turn around in weeks."

"Public opinion is quite malleable... easily shaped by twists and turns in current events," she said.

"Recent weeks' developments have not been generally favorable to President Duterte, but his base of support remains solid, in my view. The 16 million who voted for him in May 2016, I believe are still there," she added.

From ‘very good’ to ‘good’: Duterte’s satisfaction rating drops 18 points
By Rosette Adel (philstar.com) | Updated October 8, 2017 - 7:04pm

Despite the 18-point drop in public satisfaction, the net trust of Duterte remained to be very good with +60 trust rating. File photo

MANILA, Philippines — The latest survey of the Social Weather Stations revealed that the net satisfaction of President Rodrigo Duterte declined by 18 points, plunging to “good” from the previous “very good.”

The third quarter 2017 SWS survey showed that 67 percent of Filipinos were satisfied with Duterte’s performance while 19 percent were dissatisfied and 14 percent were undecided. This resulted in a net satisfaction rating of +48 compared to his +66 rating in June 2017.

The SWS survey also found that 73 percent of Filipinos have much trust in Duterte while only 12 percent and 15 percent have little trust and undecided, respectively.

Duterte's net trust rating, although at “very good” with +60, went down by 15 points compared to the previous poll. In June, the president had a +75 net trust rating or “excellent.”

Duterte's satisfaction rating plunges in Visayas, Luzon

The survey also showed that Duterte’s net satisfaction rating remained steady in Mindanao as it only increased by a point at +76 in September 2017 compared to June. His satisfaction rating for Visayas and Luzon, however, decreased by 30 points and 22 points, respectively.

Duterte’s net satisfaction rating stayed at “very good” for classes ABC with +57, just two points below his June rating.

The third quarter SWS survey was conducted from Sept. 23 to 27 this year with face-to-face interviews of 1,500 adults nationwide (600 in Balance Luzon and 300 each in Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao).

It had sampling error margins of ±2.5 percent for national; ±4 percent for Balance Luzon; and ±6 percent each for Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.

For the public satisfaction rating, the respondents were asked the question: “Please tell me how satisfied or dissatisfied you are with the performance of Rodrigo Duterte as president of the Philippines. Are you very satisfied, somewhat satisfied, undecided if satisfied or dissatisfied, somewhat dissatisfied, very dissatisfied, or you have not ever heard or read anything about Rodrigo Duterte?”

On the other hand, for the trust rating, respondents were asked: “Please indicate if your trust/faith in (Rody Duterte) is Very much, Somewhat much, Undecided if much or little, Somewhat little, Very little, or You have not heard or read anything about (Rody Duterte) ever?”

From 'very good' to 'good': Duterte's net satisfaction rating drops 18 points, says SWS survey
ABS-CBN News
Posted at Oct 08 2017 05:59 PM

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte's net satisfaction rating dropped to 48, which is 18 points lower than the one he got in June 2017, as less Filipinos say they are satisfied with his performance, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed Sunday.

This means the net satisfaction rating of Duterte has dropped from the classification of "very good" to "good," according to the SWS survey conducted September 23 to 27 among 1,500 adult Filipinos nationwide.

The survey shows 67% of the respondents are satisfied with Duterte's performance, an 11-point dip from the 78% he got last June; with 19% saying they are dissatisfied, which is 7 more points from the last survey and 14% saying they are undecided.

Meanwhile, the same survey also found 73% of Filipinos with "much trust" and 12% with little trust in President Duterte, while 15% saying they are undecided, a change from the 82% "much trust", 7% "little trust", and 11% undecided he got last June 2017.

This means the net trust rating of President Duterte dropped to 60, which is 15 points below last survey's 75 points, SWS said, noting that this is classified as "very good," one grade lower than the previous "excellent" rating.

"The President's net satisfaction rating from June 2017 to September 2017 fell by 30 points in the Visayas, 22 points in Balance Luzon, and 19 points in Metro Manila, while it stayed steady in Mindanao," SWS added.

SWS also noted that the net satisfaction rating of Duterte stayed at the "very good" classification among Classes A, B, and C with 57 points, while it fell one grade below, from "very good" to "good" among the Class D or the Filipino masses with 49 points.

Duterte's net satisfaction rating among Classes A, B, and C last June 2017 is 59 points, while he got 66 points among the Filipino masses.

"The Social Weather Survey items on public satisfaction with, and public trust in, the President are non-commissioned. They are included on SWS's own initiative and released as a public service," SWS explained.

Hindi yung mga walang kwentang FAKE NEWS hearings eh, attend sila ng attend.

exactly, those appointees were just for show, pambobola lang. like sa case na lang ni Lopez. suportado daw ni P-Dut yung moves ni Lopez, samantala pro-mining naman si P-Dut, kaya nga panay reklamo nya nung una sa Paris accord, kesyo hindi pa tayo industrialized nation. tapos biglang todo suporta kuno ke Lopez after ito inappoint as DENR secretary. this is the same Lopez who we all know is a hardcore environmentalist. naknangteteng, napaka obvious ng contradictory appointment or position. so when Lopez was denied on her appointment, it was predictable. if Lopez did not see it coming, then she is one stup1d person...
