Kuwait’s expulsion of PH envoy ‘deeply disturbing,’ ‘inconsistent’: DFA

ABS-CBN News
Posted at Apr 26 2018 12:44 AM

MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs late Wednesday night called the Kuwaiti government's move to expel Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Renato Villa "deeply disturbing" and "inconsistent."

Kuwait expels Philippine envoy amid tensions over domestic workers
In a statement, the DFA said it will seek an explanation from Kuwaiti Ambassador to the Philippines Saleh Ahmad Althwaikh Thursday.

"The action taken by the Kuwaiti Government is deeply disturbing as it is inconsistent with the assurances given by Kuwaiti Ambassador Musaed Saleh Ahmad Althwaikh during his meeting with Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano in Manila on Tuesday," it said.

"The Department will ask Ambassador Saleh to explain first thing tomorrow why the Kuwaiti Government reneged on the agreement reached with him to work together to move bilateral relations between the Philippines and Kuwait forward."

Villa on Wednesday confirmed he has been ordered by the Kuwaiti government to leave the country following the controversial rescue of Filipino migrant workers from the homes of their employers.

The Kuwaiti government has given Villa a week to leave the country, and also recalled its ambassador from Manila, according to a report by Reuters.

The Philippine government and Villa on Tuesday apologized to Kuwait after the latter lodged a diplomatic protest over the rescue.

The death squad Mayor think that everything revolves around him. He thought the exchange of pleasantries and hand shaking will do the job, but obviously not in a country where laws, etiquette and protocols are being followed. And the ******* president still proudly said, "they are more better friends with Kuwait after the meeting."

Duterte: 40% of all barangay captains involved in drugs

ABS-CBN News
Posted at Mar 23 2017 04:23 AM

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte said early Thursday morning that there won't be any barangay elections this year.

According to the president, he will not allow drug-tainted personalities to be elected as barangay officials. Duterte said drug money may be used if there will be elections this year.

In a press conference at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) following his official visits in Myanmar and Thailand, Duterte claimed that 40% of all the barangay captains in the country are involved in drugs.

"Forty percent of the total barangay captains are into drugs. That's my problem," Duterte said.

He revealed that he has advised lawmakers not to conduct elections in order to prevent narco-politicians from assuming barangay posts.

"Do not commit the mistake of calling elections now because narco-politics has entered into the mainstream of Philippines politics," Duterte said.

The president revealed that he is looking at appointing officers-in-charge in barangays in lieu of the current officials who were on mere holdover capacity.

Duterte said he will tap the church and the civil society for names of nominees for the barangay posts.

The president said he will ask for three nominees, who will fit the three criteria he enumerated.

According to Duterte, the nominee must not be connected with rebels, not involved in illegal drugs, and not connected to politicians.

This is where the "intel" funds come into play.
Shame that the death squad Mayor does not have his mag-bff Peter Lim-Po Leong, the Davao Group, and the mainland Chinese triads, in his line of fire.

In his letter before I departed to this mission, he said my primary duty was to further advance the national interest of the Philippines and to strengthen and broaden our bilateral relations with the State of Kuwait," he said.

Villa stays as PH envoy in Kuwait – Cayetano

By: Christine O. Avendaño - @inquirerdotnet Philippine Daily Inquirer / 06:48 PM April 25, 2018

SINGAPORE — Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Renato Villa will not be recalled and will stay in his post and continue to assist distressed Filipino maids, Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said on Wednesday.

“Kuwaiti (officials) say he’s welcome to stay,” Cayetano told reporters.

Cayetano arrived here for the two-day 32nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit that begins on Friday, ahead of President Duterte who will arrive on Thursday night.

The foreign secretary said there was no request to recall Villa who led the rescue of abused Filipino maids last week that displeased Kuwaiti authorities and which led to the arrest of two Filipino drivers hired for the rescue operations.

“He’s doing a good job,” Cayetano said of Villa who had apologized last Tuesday to Kuwait.

He said he may allow Villa to have a rest if the latter requested. But he noted that the ambassador had told him there were still 800 Filipino maids taking shelter with the embassy and he wanted to assist them.

Last week’s rescue mission was part of the government’s bid to meet the April 22 deadline set by Kuwait for the expulsion of migrants illegally working in the Gulf State.

But the mission became controversial after a video released by the Philippine embassy to the media showed embassy officials convincing the Filipino domestic helpers to leave their employers’ home and return to the Philippines. The video became viral and led Kuwaiti officials to arrest two Filipino drivers who took part in the rescue operations as well as led to the Kuwaiti foreign ministry to summon Villa and protest the actions of the embassy.

Meanwhile, Cayetano said that the embassy was working for the release of the two Filipinos who were arrested and that the Kuwaiti ambassador told him to give them time because the case of the two men were with the Kuwaiti interior ministry.

“Basically, we’re vouching for them that they were hired to drive and were not part of the planning and decision making (of the rescue mission,” he said.

As for the video, Cayetano said the Department of Foreign Affairs was reviewing the videos, saying there were four videos that actually went out — one was released a month ago while the rest were on the rescue mission — one taken by government television station PTV 4, and the others was the officially released video and another by someone who took the video on his own.

He said the DFA was reviewing its regulations on the release of video through social media.

“I have to admit there’s a lot of discussions about the use of social media. There’s a lot of good, but it could also have harm. I think some of the regulations should be very specific,” he said.

Why blame the past admin? What you're seeing now is the death squad Mayor's incompetence and stupidity that are happening now, he's the president for almost two years, he's making decisions.
I was thinking the word "accountability" come to one's senses and finally do understand this report, it's so sad some folks don't.

Kuwait issues arrest warrants vs 3 Filipino diplomats
By: Paterno Esmaquel II

The Philippines confirms that aside from 3 diplomatic personnel facing arrest, 4 of the embassy's Filipino hires remain detained in Kuwait

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines confirmed on Thursday, April 26, that Kuwait has issued arrest warrants against 3 Filipino diplomats, while 4 of the embassy's Filipino hires remain in detention.

The Philippines' ambassador in Kuwait, Renato Villa, was expelled after the embassy's rescue of abused overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) angered Kuwait.

In a statement, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said, "The Department served a diplomatic note to the Embassy of Kuwait conveying its strong surprise and great displeasure over the declaration of Ambassador Renato Pedro Villa as persona non grata; the continued detention of 4 Filipinos hired by the Philippine Embassy; and the issuance of arrest warrants against 3 diplomatic personnel."

The DFA did not identify the 3 diplomatic personnel facing arrest, and the 4 Filipino hires in detention.

Earlier, state-run Kuwait News Agency said Kuwait arrested two Filipinos for allegedly urging Filipino maids to escape their employers.

Citing Kuwait's interior ministry, the Kuwait News Agency said that "inspectors have detained two Filipinos as they were enticing female housemaids of the same nationality to escape from their employers' households."

During interrogations, the two Filipinos admitted the crime "in addition to other similar offenses that had been committed in various regions of the country," said Kuwait's interior ministry. – Rappler.com
