Salvation, grace, faith, works, believe, eternal life, death, heaven, hell, angels, devil, demons, anti-Christ, the beast, etc. These and more occupy the minds of most bible scholars, preachers, teachers and students alike. And still confusion abound.

After years of study and over much discussions with PRMOers over these years, I see the simple theme of the bible - God is still creating man in his image according to his likeness.

The subjects above stated all point out to this main bible message - God's intent and on stream to make man like God.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness...

God’s image and likeness

God’s image, or reputation, is Love. For man to acquire God’s image, he needs to abide in love.

1 John 4:16 …God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

God is spirit.

John 4:24 God is Spirit...

To become like God who is spirit, incorruptible and immortal, physical, corruptible and mortal man must put on incorruption and immortality.

1 Corinthians 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Until that point in the creation process where man shall have become a perfect spirit being, God’s creation of man is not yet done.

The Creation “blue print”

The bible shows the phases of creation:

1. Physical Adam and Eve created; to choose between the ways to life and to death.

2. The way to death having been chosen, salvation process started:
a. The Word becoming flesh for the purpose of death;
b. Jesus’ death pays for man’s sins;
c. God’s raising Jesus from the dead assuring man’s salvation.

3. Creation resumes on the few in this age:
a. Granting of repentance;
b. Giving the power of the Holy Spirit;
c. Man putting on himself Jesus Christ to do his work, man needs only to submit to God’s will in the process.

4. Jesus’ changing the overcomer to spirit at his return; the person who don’t want God’s reign slain.

5. The still physical man who survives the great tribulation and the takeover by Christ of this world and lives on to the next age undergoes #3 as those who will be born during that age with the overcomer being changed to spirit; the person who don’t want God’s reign slain.

6. The rest of mankind who had since died and who don’t fall under #3 and #5 undergoes #3 with the overcomer being changed to spirit; the person who don’t want God’s reign slain.

7. Heaven and earth replaced with the new heaven and new earth and to the latter God joins man who shall have been in God’s image and likeness by then.

Physical man is first phase of creation

Man in the image and likeness of God is a being with freewill and who uses that freedom of choice to always choose God’s way. God designed man with freewill because he was not making a robot. Should man choose not to conform to God’s way God can simply terminate his existence.

So God first fashioned man from the dust of the ground.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

The first test for Adam and Eve’s exercise of freewill is the pattern to be presented to all men. The test is whether or not man would make God reign over him.

Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

When God presented Adam with the choice between the way to life and the way to death, Eve heard the opposite of what God was saying and she believed it.

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

Eve choose to eat the forbidden fruit as she was deceived. Adam ate the fruit by choice without being deceived.

1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

Having violated a penal law not to eat, Adam & Eve’s death became a certainty as God said. Adam & Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden. They and their descendants were barred access to the tree of life.

Genesis 3:23 therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

The anticipated snag in man’s creation process happened.

While Adam and Eve reproduce their kind, God put on course man’s salvation from the power of death. God's creating man is not bound to fail.

Anticipated snag

In the beginning, two God beings, the Word and God, planned man’s creation.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Long before its implementation, the work plan on project man considered a snag somewhere in the work process. For this reason, the Lamb is said to have been slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation 13:8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

God and the Lamb were not surprised by Adam and Eve’s choice not to submit to his rule by disobeying his instruction not to eat of the forbidden fruit.

Salvation from the power of death

Salvation is the series of corrective acts to remedy the foreseen possibility which did occur by man’s doing meriting man death. God told Adam and Eve that in the day that they eat of the forbidden fruit their deaths become certain.

Genesis 2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

It is not the eating which brought them the penalty of death. It is the violation of the penal law “you shall not eat”. Sin, or the violation of the law, was committed when Adam and Eve decided in their minds to break the law. The eating was just a manifestation of the violation which occurred at the moment they chose to follow Satan instead of God.

Adam and Eve did not grasp the reality of what death is as almost everyone else today. Instead of believing God, Satan’s lie is more believable and many rely on his words that man does not really die.

The lie “You will not surely die” is oft repeated even in obituaries some of which state that the person who died has “joined his creator” or has “gone to be with the Lord”. Another version of death which softens its impact is the teaching that death is merely “the separation from God”. Whatever description of death which still portrays the person as being alive is not death.

Death is a power.

Hebrews 2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

At the day of one’s death, no one has power.

Ecclesiastes 8:8…And no one has power in the day of death.

Death is the opposite of life. It is from this helpless situation of being dead that man is to be saved from.

Steps in Salvation

If every man dies because of sin, then God’s purpose of creating man in his image and likeness would fail. All have sinned and all should die.

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death…

But God would not be God if he fails. Man, who is now certain to die, must be saved from his predicament. The steps in the saving process have since been done as follows:

1. The Word became flesh and died in man’s stead; and
2. God rescued the dead Christ from the power of death.

The Word had to become flesh for the purpose of death and he did become flesh and died so that man need no longer die for his sins.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.

And Jesus did die.

(A discussion of Jesus’ death is in the thread “Did Christ really die?”)

viewtopic.php?f=20&t=82228

(To “perish”, which is the opposite of having eternal life, is discussed in the thread “What do you understand by ‘perish’ in John 3:16?”)

viewtopic.php?f=20&t=82548

God has raised Jesus from the dead assuring every other dead man’s own revival from death.

Jesus’ death to save man is not enough. Jesus himself had to be raised from the dead because man shall be saved by his life. Jesus’ death merely reconciled man to God.

Romans 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

If Jesus was not raised from the dead, then all those who have died have perished. We also perish when we die.

1 Corinthians 15:17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

But God raised Jesus from the dead.

Acts 13:30 But God raised Him from the dead.

“The Power of his (Jesus’) Resurrection” is discussed in the link below:

You didn't answer the question head on. Be open. Anyway, to cut short this little topic diversion, I'll tell you the import of my response to your "sick" post.

By either not agreeing with or understanding my previous posts, you posted "sick" which is an allusion that I am mentally sick. This is a violation of the forum rule prohibiting personal attack. To cover up your violation, I made it appear that you were talking about yourself.

You can attack and criticize posts but not the poster. Let's stick to the rule.

The Creation of God’s image in man resumes

Jesus Christ, the Word, is the executive in the creation of all things including man.

John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Jesus having been raised from the dead, man’s creation resumes. Not at the same time though. There is an order or sequence.

1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.

God knows who will most likely overcome or make it in an age where Satan is present. So God draws to Jesus Christ only those he sees who have the willpower to submit to him. Unless God draws a person to Christ that person could not go to Christ to have his creation continued.

John 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him…

The way to the tree of life is still barred to the rest of mankind.

Genesis 3:23 therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

The process of creating the image or character of God in a person begins with those who are called to be part of the Church or house of God. Salvation is good as done in their case. They have been saved from the ultimate penalty of sin which is the second death subject. Of course, subject to their choosing God to reign over their lives. Godly image building for them begins.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God…

This “judgment” refers to a period of time where man will be presented with situations where he will make a choice. The exercise of man’s freedom to choose whether, in a given situation, he will make God reign over him or not. It is simply to choose whether to obey God or follow Satan as Eve did, or follow his own will as Adam did.

Steps in the image creation process

Salvation is presented to an individual as God sees fit. But the individual concerned still has to make the decision as to whether or not he would avail of it in this age.

Before a person goes through the Godly image building stage in his creation, he first undergoes these steps:
1. God’s granting him repentance and his acceptance symbolized by his submitting to baptism
2. God’s indwelling in him of the Holy Spirit
3. Submitting to Christ’s will in all his trying situations availing of the power of the Holy Spirit in him to overcome

Just as a person cannot go to God unless he is drawn to Christ, a person cannot repent on his own. It is God who grants repentance. It is God who determines who can gain access to the tree of life in this age.

Acts 11:18 When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”

As the teachings about God and his purpose are spread out through the media in this age, those whom God intended to respond get interested and do respond. But whether or not each individual gets into the image creation stage depends on the particular individual’s freewill. He still makes the choice whether to submit to God’s way is more important to him than the alluring ways of this world.

The parable of the sower illustrates this point.

Matthew 13:3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

This parable is explained:

Matthew 13:18 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Only the person who belongs to the fourth category of hearers proceeds with his creation process in this age. The others will have their chance during the great white throne judgment period described in Revelation 20:11-13.

The person who is granted repentance submits to baptism and the laying on of hands for the receipt of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The person who so receives the Holy Spirit immediately belongs to Christ. He becomes a Christian. He is his.

Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

The Christian becomes distinct from the rest of mankind because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in him. It is this power which makes the person, in a sense, a new creation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

To succeed in the Godly image building process, the person simply has to have the mind of Christ.

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus...

The new creation even has to put on Christ himself.

Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

By consistently submitting to the lead of Jesus Christ using the power of the Holy Spirit, the image creation stage should not fail when it is already Christ himself who is doing the overcoming for the Christian so to speak.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
