Portugal have had to pack up earlier than expected, and much of the blame can be laid at Cristiano Ronaldo's door after he failed in the big moments. Current European champions going into the World Cup, they were among the favourites to win the title largely because of the extraordinary state of form that Ronaldo was in.
The striker certainly started the tournament incredibly, scoring a hat-trick against Spain and the only goal in the victory against Morocco.
However, Ronaldo couldn't score when it really mattered.
Against Iran, he failed to convert a penalty that would have given Portugal first place in the group and perhaps his destiny would have changed.
Uruguay ensured he was kept under wraps for the most part and although he managed six shots against the South Americans, only one was on target.

Despite this, it was still Ronaldo's best World Cup.
He scored more goals than he had in all the previous tournaments put together.
In this edition, he was the player with the most shots; 21, of which eight were on target.
His best performance was against Spain; three goals and an almost perfect game, with 94 percent pass completion.
A top speed of 33.98 km/h is the fastest in the tournament.
Against Morocco he achieved 100 percent success; a shot on goal, a goal and three points for Portugal, but, from then on, his effectiveness decreased.
As for the kilometres he ran, he completed more than 34 in the four games played.
He only dropped below 8,000 metres in the Iran game, and against Uruguay, he ran more than nine kilometres.

Belgium 3 - Japan 2 full time

What a game. I felt sorry for the Japanese. They played brilliantly but the winning goal from Belgium on the very last minute of stoppage time was a heartbreaker for the japanese.

Belgium-Brazil was a great game....great showing by the Japanese.

At least now, we know how far Azkals have to go to even make a dent in qualifying.....

With the WC field being expanded to 48 teams, who knows, the Philippines might have a shot....but it'll take a lot of help from different areas of society...
