UFC 230 : Saturday night, at the “World’s Most Famous Arena” in New York City, UFC makes its return with a fight card that was supposed to deliver the goods. UFC 230 had a litany of names attached to it at different times throughout the build up, but in the end, it may disappoint a few fans.

It all goes down later tonight (Sat., Nov. 3, 2018) at UFC 230 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City when Daniel Cormier puts his heavyweight title on the line opposite streaking knockout artist Derrick Lewis.

Before “DC” vs. “Black Beast” leads a re-worked main card, which includes a co-main event between former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman and Brazilian submission expert Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, a slew of preliminary bouts will unfold on Fight Pass and FOX Sports 1.

UFC 230 is set to go down this Saturday inside one of the most historic arenas in the world Madison Square Garden. Despite this being one of the most anticipated cards of the entire year, for much longer than expected, this show went without an official main event up until three weeks before the show. That changed with the news that Daniel Cormier will make the first defense of the heavyweight title he took from Stipe Miocic back in July against Derrick Lewis, who is making an insane turnaround from his last fight which just took place early in October at UFC 229.

The co-main event sees Chris Weidman square off with Jacare Souza in a middleweight bout. Weidman was originally scheduled to meet Luke Rockhold in a rematch of their December 2015 title matchup, but Rockhold was forced to pull out of the bout due to multiple injuries he was attempting to work through.

It may have been a last-minute Hail Mary to salvage what seemed to be a poorly-planned PPV event, but the 265-pound title fight between Cormier and Lewis makes sense. “Black Beast” is currently ranked No. 2, while Stipe Miocic — the No. 1-ranked former champion — recently got knocked out by “DC.” While many were wondering why Curtis Blaydes — who is on a five-fight win streak — didn’t get the nod, the promotion needed a bigger name to fit the “Big Apple” bill, and Lewis does just that. But no worries, should “Razor” get through Francis Ngannou he should be “next” in line (cough, Brock Lesnar).

As for this fight, Cormier has all the cards stacked in his favor except in the power department. “DC” can probably take the fight down to the ground at any moment, but Lewis is a big man, so keeping him there will be a chore. Plus, the “champ-champ” is more-technical than “Black Beast” in all areas, so if he can avoid getting clipped by a clean shot, “DC” should walk out the victor.

From its inception, the card wasn’t going smoothly as far as setting up a headlining act. Granted, the event was given a face lift thanks to constant injuries and switch-ups, but it really wasn’t thought out well from the beginning — the main event was still undetermined the day tickets went on sale.

This card went through so many changes that it was hard to keep up. To start, a Valentina Shevchenko vs. Sijara Eubanks title fight was announced as the main event just a few weeks prior to fight night. After some fierce backlash, the promotion backtracked and ultimately paid Cormier and Lewis to step up on short notice, forcing Shevchenko back to UFC 231 against Joanna Jedrzejeczyk. As for Eubanks, she was pegged to rematch Roxanne Modafferi.

In addition, a rematch between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman was slated for PPV main card action, but after Rockhold sustained an injury, the promotion shuffled the deck and booked Weidman vs. Jacare Souza, leaving David Branch without an opponent. That was until Jarrod Cannonier stepped in to fill the void.

Saunders fought one month ago, losing to Sergio Moraes at UFC Fight Night 137, so he jumped at chance to get back into the win column by taking a short notice fight against Good, the former Bellator MMA standout. Eubanks tore into Dana White — and promised to do the same to Joe Rogan — after her title fight was canceled as quickly and unexpectedly as it was gifted to her. She will look to get back into the hunt when she faces Roxanne Modafferi, a person she defeated on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF).
