This fight is tentatively scheduled either July 19 or 26 at Cebu City.

I am betting if it pushes through, Garcia will be lucky to last more than 6 rounds with Penalosa. Garcia has not fought many big names and the few he fought, they beat him, example:- Abner Mares and Fernando Montiel.

However, I commend the SSG Promotions for trying hard to put it up. It will be a nice treat to the Cebuanos who always supported boxing as a whole.

So Sir Sammy, bring it on... it will be a nice fight and a good "keep busy" fight for Gerry. And, it will be nice to see Ciso Morales again.

Interesting facts about Isidro Garcia

* He is a former WBO flyweight champ only to lost it in his second defense against Gorres conqueror Fernando Montiel

* Now this is very interesting:

In 1999, Alejandro Montiel was originally scheduled to fight Jose Lopez for the vacant WBO flyweight crown, but withdrew a few hours before the fight. Isidro Garcia happened to be in attendance as a spectator and was asked to step in while sitting at ringside eating a doughnut. Surprisingly!!! Garcia fought and won the title using borrowed trunks, protective cup and mouthpiece! winning by a UD!

* Gerry Penalosa and Isidro Garcia has one common opponent and this was Oscar Andrade, Penalosa and Garcia both registered UD verdicts against Andrade.

* Garcia was once regarded as a potential champion when he surged into a 16-0 record early in his career.

* Garcia is quite an experienced fighter having fought the some of the big names like current champs Montiel and Mauricio Pastrana and the rising Abner Mares.

Maybe Garcia is not within the level of Gerry P., but i think he would still give a good fight.

mr. sammy gello-ani lamented why ronnie nathanielz said that peñalosa's scheduled title defense at the cebu coliseum has been moved to another date. SGG said that nathanielz should have confirmed this to him first before he issued this statement. as it is SGG said that gerry's scheduled title defense will proceed as scheduled.
