Last I heard, ALA was trying to get him a fight in the US this coming summer. A fight on the Mayweater/Marquez undercard would just be lovely 8)

I heard that it is going to be AJ if im not mistaken.

im asking this coz im rooting for the guy ever since...

im concerned coz its a waste to let the guy get lost in the shuffle and rot in the sidelines....

im pissed seeing the guy getting bumped-off just that easily....

damn! im pissed! :banghead:

ALA is planning for him to campaign in the US like Banal and Melligen. They're looking at a rematch with the new WBO bantamweight champ Fernando Montiel. The thing is that he was ranked no.2 behind Eric Morel but slid down to no.3 to make way for Gerry Peñalosa. So it would take quite some time for him to fight for the title.

I think it was him I saw when AJ Banal fought Matumla
and there was something placed on his entire left wrist
and it seems to me that he is injured

He's not injured bro. Boom2x's the one that injured his left wrist.

Yeah, you're right bro. AJ is already guaranteed a fight on that undercard.

But I'm also hoping that Z gets a fight on the undercard as well.

Honestly, this pisses me off.

Why in the world is it soooo effing hard to get Z Gorres a decent fight???

Is there no opening in the undercard of Mayweather/Marquez for him?? Or is GBP only allowing AJ Banal to be the sole Filipino on it?

Whatever. I don't care if Z has to fight only the Philippines this year. I want at least two more fights out of him this year before 2009 ends.

He could have beaten Vic Darchinyan, had the Cebuano boxing judge favored him.

I saw him third week of May at Mandaue, walking near the Caltex gas station (caltex near super metro), he's wearing a sleeveless gray shirt and blue jogging pants with his usual clean-cut hair style. He rode a small jeeyney going to Lilo-an, and I think he got heavier, maybe (from how I saw him) he's already 160lbs now.

Z needs to improve, if he has not yet. Or else he'll end up zzzleeping again.

they should train in the US

turns out signing up with Golden Boy didnt do much to their careers. had it been with top rank then they would always have been undercards in manny's fight. check out abe concepcion

they say strike when the iron is hot. manny's retiring after 2010 (???) and im sure pinoy boxers exposure would significantly go down. wonder what happens after their contracts with GBP expires....

Yeah, right. That's exactly the problem. Manny's opened the doors and how much does the Philippines have to show for it?

I mean, Nonito Donaire has been able to break into the top 10 P4P best in the world. I think that's a great achievement. But, it's still only 1 superstar boxer produced after Manny.

Other than Donaire, we haven't been able to show that Philippine Boxing is here to stay. Z Gorres, Sonny Boy Jaro, and Rodel Mayol have shown that their contenders, but haven't earned that world title yet. AJ Banal, Rey Bautista both came up short in their respective bid to be champions. Bernabe Concepcion hasn't really been tested or thrown in against a Ring Magazine top 10 fighter in the 122 or 126 pound weight class. Florante Condes, once highly regarded, has now gone downhill in terms of activity in his career. If there's any way to describe Condes, it would be that his management has wasted his talent.
Jundy Maraon, Glenn Porras, Rolando Magbanua all have yet to face real quality opposition in their young careers.
Marvin Sonsona and Milan Melindo appear to have the tools for a future champion, but I think both still need to fight more quality rated opposition before going for the gold.

Though I'll tip my hat to Donnie Nietes. He has the heart of the champion and the tools of one as well. Hopefully his reign will be long and great and maybe we've got our version of the great Ricardo Lopez of Mexico :D

Even though Brian Viloria's victories are credited to the US instead of the Philippines (though he is 100% Filipino, but is born and raised in the US), I give him credit for his 2009 Fight of The Year bid in dethroning Ulises Solis. May his reign also be long and victorious.

I know the talent pool is looking great, so maybe it's still too early to say if Philippine Boxing will disappear soon after Manny's retirement.
