Gorres hopes to join Top Rank
By Edri K. Aznar

ALA Promotions is hoping Z Gorres will join Manny Pacquiao in Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions this week.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer got an e-mail from Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Tampler earlier this month on their interest in signing Gorres but they haven’t received a formal contract yet.

Aldeguer, who handles Gorres, believes Top Rank will be talking to them soon regarding their plan of acquiring Gorres.

“I hope it will happen this week,” said Aldeguer.

Aldeguer believes that if Top Rank signs the 27-year-old Gorres, he can land huge fights in the US.

“At this stage of Z’s career, we’re not looking for small fights but big fights,” he said.

Gorres didn’t have a busy schedule in the past two years and only had two fights each in 2007 and 2008.

“We have to make him fight within the year,” said Aldeguer.

The Cebuano fighter has only fought once this year against former world champion Roberto Leyva, whom he stopped in the second round to win the World Boxing
Organization (WBO) Oriental bantamweight crown.

Aldeguer plans to let him fight in August and in November.

However, all that depends whether Top Rank signs Gorres.

What's taking this contract so long to be finalized?

It's almost been a month, I'm hoping it gets done soon because I want to see Gorres fight on the undercard of Viloria/Penalosa on August 29.

Yes...

Z could train at the Top Rank gym in Las Vegas where there would be better quality sparring. Z could improve his skill set by sparring against better fighters... compared to always sparring against the ALA stablemates.

Z needs to sign the contract ASAP.
