DREAM INTERRUPTED

By Rene Bonsubre, Jr.

"....We will miss Gorres the boxer; his bobbing and weaving, his footwork and his counterpunching. He was looking forward meet his old nemesis, Fernando Montiel of Mexico next year. Montiel won a disputed split decision in a 2007 WBO superflyweight title fight held in Cebu City. A couple of months ago, Gorres and stable mate Donnie Nietes celebrated a rare twin victory on Mexican soil. Winning the WBO bantamweight belt from Montiel would have been the culmination of Gorres’ dream.

But it was not meant to be. What is important now is that he will recover. The people close to him won’t mind if he goes back to being plain ZC Oliveros Gorres – husband, father, relative and friend.

There will be more young men like Gorres from Mandaue City and elsewhere who will put on a pair of gloves. Our boxers, through their courage and effort, have shown the world that we are no longer the sick man of Asia nor are we a nation of servants. We are Filipinos; we exist, we matter, we fight.

WE DREAM."

===================================================================================

I will always be a Gorres fan... i will surely miss him atop the ring, his savvy, his ring intelligence, his finesse... but it's okay, as long as he will live.

To me, he's the BEST boxer of today - in and out of that squared ring.

:)

Likewise...

Z is not an ordinary person to me, he's one of my close friend too, I always remember the time when we met at the Mactan-Mandaue New bridge, he called me and praise him on his training while jogging.

Reposting the article of Jaxan, watching him fighting with the Thailander.

See photos taken during Z Gorres – Wisanu Pornobnum fight at Mandaue Sports Complex last October 29. The Cebu Paclanders were in attendance up to the closing stages of the brawls. Thanks to the Viva Hot babes ring girls who kept us stirring the whole night. The gathering was a hit.. I’m glad to see my fellow paclanders who gave a
chance to this get-together considering their uptight schedules and engagements. It’s nice to see people who barely knows each other congregates just like finest of friends because of same passion and zeal they have within..

Maybe 1 or 2 more fights could have made Z Gorres a world champion.

Change the trainers for the sake of other boxers.

nobody cares if butchoy never became the world champion. his friends only care about the guy coming back and living a normal life.
and his trainers have nothing to do with what happened. If you want, you can apply for trainer in ALA if you believe you are better than Coach Edito.

Gorres has done enough for boxing..he may not have won a world title, but he made us proud with his achievements. imo, he is the best boxer the ala gym has produced. he may have lost his two title fights, still, to me, i think he is one of the best pinoy fighters of this generation. i think he gives donaire a hell of a time if they fought. but i know that won't happen even if this didn't happen to him.. keep your heads up Z, we will always be proud of what you've done for Philippine boxing.

With the proper training, i think he can be a great trainer, being a world class boxer himself.
