"Monero (XMR) is an open source cryptocurrency created in April 2014 that is focused on privacy, decentralisation and scalability. Unlike many cryptocurrencies that are derivatives of Bitcoin, Monero is based on the CryptoNote protocol and possesses significant algorithmic differences relating to blockchain obfuscation. Monero has ongoing support from the community, and its modular code architecture has been praised by Wladimir J. van der Laan, a Bitcoin Core maintainer. Monero's market capitalization in the 1-year period 5 September 2015 – 5 September 2016 varied between $3.7 million (3 December 2015) and more than $170 million (3 September 2016)."...

Currently:

1 Kh/s (1,000 hashes/second) yields approximately 0.22 XMR/24h (pool mining)
1 Th/s (1,000,000,000,000 hashes/second) yields approximately 0.001 BTC/24h (pool mining)

Based on current exchange rates (rounded):

0.22 XMR x 6.50 USD = 1.43 USD/24h
0.001 BTC x 650.00 USD = 0.65 USD/24h

Also worth noting is the fact that my GPU miners (XMR) draws about a third less wattage at the wall than my ASIC miners (BTC) at the 1 Kh/s (XMR) to 1 Th/s (BTC) ratio as initially stated above.

YMMV depending on CPU/GPU (XMR mining) or ASIC (BTC mining) hardware efficiency and of course, if and when the cost per KWH of electricity is factored in if current profitability is considered instead of long-term appreciation/speculation.

Though the Monero reference wallet/client (Account Manager) is currently CLI only, it's not really difficult to use. For example, sending Monero to an address is just a matter of typing in the following on the console: "transfer <address> <amount>".

The GUI version of the reference wallet/client will be released very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if such a release will cause another price rally (my thoughts/opinion only).

Is pool mining more profitable than solo mining?

Sorry for the noobie question.
