without bias... its Barrera and Morales that made Pac famous... those are icons in boxing... without those icons I dont think he would be famous as what he is now.

the next Pacquiao will be hard to find, because there will be no Morales and Barrera when they retire.

no icons that will propel them to stardom.

Hamed made Barrera famous and Zaragosa made Morales famous and PPV fighters. Of course their trilogy too, both made each other famous.

EM and MAB were already well known when Manny fought them. When MP fought MAB, he was a small commodity, earned less than 300k/fight. When MP fought EM, it was EM that was the legend... Of course it was Manny who took some fame from them when MP KOed both.

Correct...but I think Morales' popularity came from the accumalution of fighting great fighters like Zaragosa, Espadas and Mcoulough, and his unbeaten record during those times.

agree.. i still can remember what Larry Merchant said during the 11th round of that MAB fight...

"to be the best, you have to beat the best"

the next pacquiao more likely is the one who can beat pacquiao in these days of his prime. no need of mab or em.

if someone wanna be great then he should beat great fighters and make them grow old overnight! :)

overall YES..

Pac was really famous in the Philippines during his Fly/Bantam years but not that of a star in the US..

Lucero, Ledwaba and Augie Sanchez showed a glitch to the US soil how brave Pac and what he can be in the future..

And when he fought MAB, JMM and EM.. those guys really made Pac famous in exchange for their own DISGRACE..

The icon now is Manny therefore the next Pacquiao will be the boxer who will do to Manny what Manny has done to Marco Barrera...

Who will that boxer be?

Fighters are only as famous as their conquests.
Look at Joe Calzaghe. Nobody has heard of him until he whacked Lacy.

actually, most of us were aware of who he was, we just didnt give him his 'props' til after he put lacy on his resume

Yes, but boxers become famous when the common layman starts knowing them.
If only boxing fans know Pac, he won't be that famous.
Instead you have Hollywood people who recognize Pac b/c he put MAB, JMM and EM on their azzes.

I agree. Ledwaba, (maybe even Sanchez) Barerra, Marquez, Morales, Larios all have added to the fame of Pac. He would still be considered a great fighter, but his fame, and his subsequent legendary status comes from the quality of the opponents that he has faced and beaten. Being a Pac fan should not cloud my judgment in everything pertaining to Pac. Gotta give people their due.

That's it DOC! Someone must have made someone somebody. I think that's the essence of being famous specially when you talk about competitions.
