Personally I don't favor the wordings. The anthem speaks heavily on defiance from oppression and colonialism and less on moving forward. That explains why we content ourselves watching from the sideline while other nations are competing in the economic race. Besides, reality check, do you think our leaders are willing to die for our country? I don't think so...if you look at where their assets are.

The song speaks of bravery and willingness to sacrifice our lives to defend our country if the need arises.

Are you Filipino?

Ni-record siguro nya muna ang kanta and then he killed himself pagkatapos.

Of course, there is no quarrel about those soul-stirring words of “bravery and sacrificing of our lives if the need arises” part. But the choice of words towards the end is kind of spooky. It’s like we are daring death every time we sing that song. Compared to the national anthems of other countries, ours is the most morbid, scary even.

Can you please explain why my questions about our national anthem had already made me less Filipino? Do I have to accept na lang what is already there, hook, line, and sinker, and stop asking questions? Just do what the others do and keep quiet na lang? Does that then make me an ideal Filipino? I need your enlightenment, please.

Why would you question a song of choice by our government? Im sure there were long deliberations in the choosing of our national anthem. Unless you have your own composition that could convince our government to change our national anthem.

If you're really ready to alter history go on and write a letter to our President or Malacanang. Tell them Lupang Hinirang is SPOOKY and thus the need to be changed.

I asked if you're a Filipino ....without any malice nor to ridicule you. I'm just wondering why you don't know the exact lyrics so I thought you are a foreigner so dont take that as an insult. It's just a plain question.

Here's the Panatang Makabayan ng Pilipinas: new (revised) version

Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas,
Aking lupang sinilangan,
Tahanan ng aking lahi,
Kinukupkop ako at tinutulungan
Maging malakas, masipag at marangal.
Dahil mahal ko ang Pilipinas,
Diringgin ko ang payo
Ng aking magulang,
Susundin ko ang tuntunin ng paaralan,
Tutuparin ko ang tungkulin
Ng mamamayang makabayan:
Naglilingkod, nag-aaral at nagdarasal
Ng buong katapatan
Iaalay ko ang aking buhay,
Pangarap, pagsisikap

Na ka front page pa ito for three straight days now. Meron siguro akong nabangga na malaking tao dito sa Pinoygreats and this is his way of getting back at me.

Just because a song was chosen by the government after long deliberations doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Also, I am not a composer who has plans to “sell” my ‘new national anthem’ composition to the government. Anyways, do I need to be a composer, first of all, before I should even ask the government the change our national anthem. So hindi puede kung ordinary citizen lang ako?

I had no intention to alter history or even write a letter to Malacanang. It is just that just about anything under the sun is discussed in Pinoygreats and I thought at that time to focus on the national anthem as the last 6 words of it are used by Manny Pacquiao as his slogan before his second fight with Barrera.

How many foreigners do you think are joining the forum of Pinoygreats and actually discussing anything that are none of their business, such as the national anthem of the Philippines? Do you think that would be appropriate for them to do that? Do you honestly believe all Filipinos knew every word of the national anthem? These are just plain questions also.

"Ang mamatay ng dahil sayo" is defeatist. It should be "Ang pumatay ng dahil sayo."

Mas maganda yan "Ang Mabuhay Nang Dahil Sa 'Yo!"

:D

Kailangan bang mamatay ang isang Pilipino para sa Pilipinas para tawagin syang mabuting Pilipino? Only death can do that? One can be a worthy Filipino in so many ways even while still alive!

Maraming Pinoy na (by the millions) ang namatay dahil sa Pilipinas at hindi dahil they were fighting for the freedom of the country from any oppressor. May namatay sa kalamidad baha, bagyo, sunog, sakit, aksidente, karahasan, at iba pa, dahil indirectly sa Pilipinas sila namumuhay.

Mabuti siguro kung baguhin ang lyrics in such a way that instead of using death as the main theme, completely erase it from the picture na lang. We have to do away with our morbid fixation on death. There is already more than enough negativity and problems in our country. There should be a change in our mind-set.

For example, the lyrics can be changed to something like “Ng Naging Ma Disiplinang Pilipino Ng Dahil Sa Yo.” Or something to that effect.

I like General George Patton's words better:

"I don't want my soldiers to die for our country. Let the other sonofabitch die for his own country!" :D
