after the battle in Marathon, Militiades sent one of his men to deliver the great message to Athens.
Phidippides runs the 26+ miles from Marathon to Athens

Delivers his message: "Nike!" (Victory!)

and then dies of exhaustion.

I hope this won't be the case for our beloved Pacman.

"ang mamatay nang dahil sa 'yo"

"Nang Mamatay Nang Dahil Sa 'Yo."

Intentional mistake or not, tsk, tsk, tsk... Only the thread
author knows.

"Ang mamatay ng dahil sa 'yo." Why not? Death is a possibility
in this match. Either against Barrera or anyone, it could happen.
It has happened before. Not once, not twice...

This is not a game of pingpong. Not a game of dodgeball. Well,
if you can dodge a wrench...

You're fighting with your fists. Your face is getting cut. Blood
is spilled. Your lungs cry out for air. Your knees buckle. Your
brain gets jarred, severely at times, at the risk of mortal swelling.
Facial fractures, internal injuries, they are possible.

Morbid? Certainly not. Death is possible. It just so happens
that the last line of our national anthem is suited to the sport.
At least, to the intention of Manny, to bring honor is a perfect
fit to the national lyrics.

Now whether it deprecates the spirit of the national anthem as
it is used as a banner headline by a commercial company to
boost its interests and profits is another thread. Manny gets
paid by the company. He is the face of the sports company.
At the moment, at least.

"Ang mamatay ng dahil sa 'yo." It can happen.

All the more a good advertising copy embodied by a boxer who
gives his all each time he steps in the square ring.

So now I'm the one who is being funny. From your original post you're who cant even recall that the words "mamatay ng dahil sa yo" was taken from the lyrics of our national anthem. Now you're telling me that I dont know the lyrics of our national anthem? Thats really funny indeed, really funny. :(

Yes, it should be “Ang” instead of “Nang”. But if we have to be grammatically strict about it, the Nang in “…Nang Dahil Sa ‘Yo.” is wrong. The correct word should be “Ng” which is “Of”. “Nang” is a “When”.

I knew it’s the last phrase of Lupang Hinirang. But the phrase on its own is being used out of context. I suspect a Barrera spy must have infiltrated and influenced the marketing people during the inception of the entire banner, video, and slogan. Just looking at the hooded glare of Manny, the eerie black background and the “kamikaze-like” slogan…one would get the feeling as if a voodoo spell has already been cast to do its thing to make Manny lose to Barrera. And Barrera is supposed to lose easily, right? But we may never know as to what great lengths Barrera is willing to go to in order to win this fight.

The Nike check mark beside Manny’s face may seem to signify nothing but why in the same line as “Ang Mamatay Nang Dahil Sa ‘Yo.”? It’s like marking or checking him for a certain martyrdom. Just a harmless coincidence and I’m just being paranoid? I hope so and I do wish I am proven wrong in the end. But it should be worth noting that even in the modern world of advertising, symbolism is king, and incidents that sometimes can be considered only to be paranormal do happen.

Manny is being considered as a hero. And heroes are willing to die for the sake of the country. Many people are starting to doubt if Manny really fights for his country or for money. They are trying to resurrect PACMANs image before the hero image totally die.

That phrase, "ang mamatay nang dahil sayo", is actually the last line from our Lupang Hinirang. It represents Manny's love for the country which every Filipino should have. Check out this Nike's commercial about the Pacman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf9tX4eW550

You have interpreted the song literally. What it means is self-sacrifice. His country is first before himself.
