Guys, I still remember when Manny fought Ledwaba, His alias was still THE DESTROYER..?

I know someone here in PACLAND knows who really gave Manny the nickname PACMAN.....

:) cheers....

It was Steve Kim of Maxboxing.com. I remember Steve Kim wrote an article on Maxboxing 2 days after the Ledwaba fight, and the end of the article he called Pacquiao "the Pacman." His new nickname stuck. I can't recall anybody calling Manny Pacqiao "Pacman" earlier than that. Like you wrote, his nickname was "the Destroyer".

Its Michael Buffer on MP's first fight here in USA.

Nope, Pacquiao's first fight in the US was against Ledwaba, and he was introduced as "the Destroyer".

Ohhhh what you all didn't know???? manny' favorite game growing up was pacman game  that's why he wanted to be known as pacman.

Owwsss Really?!?

I don't think so... one real reason is that US audience and others have a hard time pronouncing Manny's last name so they create a nickname for him easy to remember at the same time symbolize his way of boxing. How can you sell someone in US if they can even say Manny's name?

Do some research bro this topic has been posted here before...

I can even remember back in his Blow by Blow days, commentators would call him "Merciless" Manny Pacquiao.

maybe it was buffer.. but for sure it was from that american media.. since they are having a difficulty in pronouncing manny's fullname. they had it as pacwayo. den they just shifted it into pacman to make it more easy.
i think it was first heard during manny's fight with marquez. as lauded by michael buffer.
because when he fought barrera the first time, he wasn't really that well known to the people in the states though he already had established a name for himself by beating ledwaba and some bantamweight contenders.

As far as I can remember, the first time I heard Manny being called as PACMAN was when he was murdering MAB on their first fight. The fight commentator was having a difficulty pronouncing his surname Pacquiao & at the same time, Manny was throwing a lot of punches on MAB.

Suddenly, I heard the commentator saying like "he's like a pacman who never stops chomping his opponent" or something to that effect. Then after that big upset, writers start calling Manny as PacMan.

PACLAND by the way was still known as mannypacquiao.com during that time. Maybe Boss Shiva would exactly know who gave that monicker to Manny.
