Photography 4 Beginners 2009

This thread is an online tutorial for those who want to harness and are into an art of visual called photography. The purpose of this thread is to be able to impart my knowledge and experiences to those students who in some ways want to express their inner/hidden creativeness in their souls. And to those human beings who are in some ways are not able to participate in this humble sharing and inter-activeness and who are merely satisfied by lurking and reading the on-going topics and discussions, you are mostly welcome but what the batch 2009 require from you is RESPECT.

RULES & REGULATIONS

1. This is an exclusive thread for those students in the final roster
2. Only those students in the roster 2009 are allowed to C&Cs photos of their classmates
3. This is an open thread/forum so if you have nothing GOOD TO SAY, just keep it to yourself
4. RESPECT is what everybody wants here....to the outsider we advise you to post unrelated photos to "Pacland Digital Photography" thread.
5. All students of batch 2009 are warned that a faint and meek hearted human soul is not welcome here for the C&Cs from me will be sometimes harsh and objective but not degrading.
6. Only these people are authorized to C&Cs your project photos submitted:

a. Miguel C. Pascual aka Qyam Mychaels
b. Mic Tyson
c. Mod Putiman
d. Moderators of this site

7. No more late enrollees or "saling pusa" will be entertained for i have given enough/ample time notice for registration
8. Students of batch 2009 who were given 5 failure marks will be dropped automatically from the class and be reconsidered again for "remedial" in batch 2010...so be focused.

GOODLUCK Batch 2009

Expound rule #8

Failure means when a particular student can not and did not submit project photo 5 times.

Addendum to R&Rs

9. "Shotgun type" of photo submission will not be tolerated and unacceptable, so each student is advised to really discern their photos being submitted. Only one at a time submission per day for each lesson or module so that i could attend to some photos of other students. Still you can submit project photo related to a particular lesson/module on the following day.... wag sabay sabay na i submit per post.

ADDENDUM to R&Rs

10. Photos submitted should not undergo a massive PP (Post Production) thru adobe photoshop and the like
11. All photos should be taken using "Manual" mode.
12. Be honest.....you will be fooling your own self, not me.

Present!!! Prof. can we agree on enough number of days for any submission of photos for your C&C's coz most of us are also busy. Like me, i have limited subjects here I'm in the middle of the desert when i'm at work. Regarding my contribution, i can only send through bank account. :D

Re: contribution, we will come to that and definitely will PM each and everyone of you....
Re: deadline of submission, it depends on how easy or hard the project is but definitely it is much longer than the 2008 batch coz this batch is bigger. I know that this endeavor is only to enhance our future aside from our main source of livelihood, thus i am not going to devoid each of you from your main source of income....

When we commence our class this coming Sunday, i want each student to hold in their hand their camera because our first lesson is the basic parts of the "Camera"

Forget the Camera manual for it will only confuse you because of the terminologies........

I will make sure that you will comprehend/understand fully what are those terminologies for i will be using a "laymans' term" either Taglish (tagalog-english) or straight English

prof, when you say Manual mode, di talaga pwede gumamit ng let say Aperture priority, etc...?
mukhang exciting nga eto, kase di ko na-try talaga mag Manual...

No need for this class if all of us will depend on automation........
I want each and everyone of you to control your gadgets...not the other way around.
In this case (full control of your gadgets) you will learn to read the "lights", you will develop the "eye"...etc.

NOTICE TO ALL STUDENTS OF BATCH 2009

Tomorrow February 1, 2009, early in the morning (Phil Time) we will start our 1st lesson...be sure that your camera is in your hand because our topic is about the tool that makes photos.
Really basic but somehow the manual that goes with it when you bought your camera doesnt explain to you and i know majority of you who bought their camera doesnt know what those knobs, buttons are for......

And before i forget,

Welcome aboard..............
BTW this class is going to be interactive and not mono or spoongiving type of learning.
After every lesson discussed, queries, question and answer portion will take place before project execution thru photo submission.
I hope this is very clear... i want to give your moneys' worth and this class would be really different from other class or photography seminars some of you had attended and of course this is totally world apart from just reading books.

WELCOME BATCH 2009,

your professor,

qyammychaels

First lesson: Camera

I will just cut it short and i dont want to delve into the history of the how the modern camera evolved from pinhole to Digital.

Cameras are essential tool to create or produce we call photographs.

Photography come from 2 root word: 1. photo 2. graph/graphos..or graphic (modern)
Photo means light and graph means illustration/painting/visuals
So in reality photographers are persons who are painting using light and their canvass is the film or digital sensor.
And how they do it?

Through "Exposure" and the basic tool that they use is the camera..........
Essentially, photography is all about "Exposure"

we now go to camera:

There are 2 kinds of modern cameras: SLR/DSLR and the PS (point and shoot). Remember class that i am not talking here of "analog type" (cameras that use film). We will concentrate more on Digital type of cameras.

1. DSLR : Digital Single Lens Reflex are cameras that have a detachable lenses. Meaning you can change lenses you want to attach to the camera body. The essential feature of this camera is "what the eye sees" thru the viewfinder (sinisilip ng mata) is also what the camera and the attached lenses see"
2. Same also with regards to PS cameras but its lenses are not detachable or you cant change its lenses.
I dont know if there are new models in the market today that have a detachable lens PS type.

Cameras have 2 essential parts: camera body and lens

We will concentrate more on the "Camera body"

Camera body is just like your CPU of your computer, it is where all the control features are put : control features that will determine your "EXPOSURE"
But the very basic part of the camera body are these:
1. Shutter control
2. Aperture/lens opening control
3. Viewfinder
4. ISO control
5. Sensor or digital film
6. focus control
7. power drive control (number of frames per second during exposure)
8 storage chip or flash card

You can correct me on this if i missed something....remember this is an interactive photography class and i stand to be corrected.
