Pacquiao's win lacks drama

Manny Pacquiao might have done enough to ensure that he is introduced as a congressman the next time he fights, but he probably lost a few votes Saturday in his pound-for-pound race against Floyd Mayweather Jr. with his victory against unknown Jorge Solis in San Antonio.

Pacquiao, who is running for a seat in the Filipino Congress, was competent in scoring an eighth-round TKO, yet his victory on promoter Bob Arum's pay-per-view production fell short of the drama that is an impossible expectation after his compelling rise to stardom.

Pacquiao's run of brilliance leaves no room for missteps, even in victory. It's not whether he wins; it's how he does it. On the entertainment and pound-for-pound scale, his stoppage of Solis ranks alongside Mayweather's dull decision against Carlos Baldomir in November.

Pacquiao's political campaign, which resumes this week in the Philippines with Arum at his side, had to be a distraction. A more significant factor might have been the absence of Freddie Roach at his training camp.

Roach, who is training Oscar De La Hoya for a May 5 showdown with Mayweather, left De La Hoya's camp for a day to be in Pacquiao's corner Saturday.

But Roach's long-term absence might explain why Pacquiao, who was bloodied in a head butt, was sloppy in the early rounds. There wasn't much of a plan evident at the opening bell.

Pacquiao said he wants a rematch of his draw against Juan Manuel Marquez. It's a good thing he didn't get his wish Saturday night.

Marquez would have beat him.

mayweather is still the best bro... no doubt.. we should be at least happy that manny is ranked 2nd to him... though i think a lot of boxers are much more deserving... manny has power but no superb skill of a real boxer...

Still an entertaining fight, no matter what other people would say. Marquez didnot knockout Barrera, Floyd Mayweather booed on his last fight, Barrera was booed on Barrera-Juarez II. Pacquiao struggling to get his rythm on the earlier rounds, because Solis avoid to bang with Pacquiao but still he knockout Solis. No matter what those so called experts say about Pacquiao, for me his fight is still far more entertaining that those fighters mentioned above.

In Floyd's last fight, he ran to win, while Manny chased down an elusive opponent and knocked him out. Case closed.

Pare koy, Its a matter of opinion! Sometime great boxers have difficulty fighting with any of there opponents, kasi they have different style. Now you're telling me that Manny has no skills because of his performance last Sat,But when MP blasted Morales last November, everyone is hailing his improved skills and power blah blah! right? Solis style is different from Morales.Because Solis is unknown maybe the fans are expecting to blast Solis like what he did to Morales! But the fact is you cannot understimate any opponent. Remember Douglas - Tyson in Japan its 20-1 odds in favor of Tyson but Tyson was knock out.

In Manny's case: he made the adjustment and knockout tha guy, isnt that great to you? Did Marquez knockout Barrera? Did Mayweather Knockout Baldomir, Did Barrera knockout Juarez? Did Marquez look good in fighting Jaca? I dont get you're point.Of course Manny has flaws on his style, but his fights is far far far more entertaining than those fighters I mention above! End of Story! I guess a lot of Paclanders agrees with me.

You might be expecting much with regards to pacquiao's performance... knocking out an opponent isn't still good for you compared to a running marathon of pbf?

It lacks drama becuase of the image/reputatoin of his rival... that's why. And in contrast to those who said that this bout will be an easy fight, which may have affected and intensify your "craving" for an OUTSTANDING performance by MP, Solis proved to be a crafty and difficult fighter for MP as seen form round 1-4...

Hmmm... I hope someone can help us out here to change your handle/username...
